My autistic foster child was discriminated against because of his special needs. His sister was accepted to Grant and he was ultimately sent to school at Cesar Chavez near the queen Mary in downtown Long Beach., which is absolutely ridiculous! I hope someone sues this school district for discrimination!

My daughter has been facing harassment and bullying from another student. My daughter is a special needs student. I was not able to get any information regarding the bullying from the staff. Also the special needs children are not being treated equally to other students. For example my daughter was sent to another school for summer program. And was welcomed with open arms not only into the school but the after school program. When she went back for regular school the wrap program would not allow her to attend based on her special needs.

My daughter was assaulted multiple times by other students and there was no real “fix” for the issue except me pulling her out. She was spit on, bit and called stupid and fat, all in the same week.I also believe it had been going on a while because of some changes to her behavior. The teachers can’t catch everything but when I asked about the assaults, no one from the staff knew anything about it, even though my daughter said she told a teacher. Instead of them asking her to point them out, they decided to ask OTHER kids what happened. Didn’t make any sense. Also took them either the entire school day or multiple hours to notify me about the incidents. Totally unacceptable. And not my own experience but my friend, her brother “escaped” from the school property unnoticed twice. One day after another, so even after the first time they didn’t lock the gate or have anyone watching him.

I had my kids at this school and it always felt like they were getting a less than good education. The classroom size is ridiculous, 35 students to 1 teacher ratio. Students get hardly any PE. Classes only get one field trip, if they're lucky. Their fundraising ideas are terrible. There is, unfortunately,no PTA to help with this area. The attendance policy is ridiculous. Students who are present all year long, but late one day, are not awarded anything at the end of the year. Only accelerated students get the schools best teachers, when it should be the other way around. Low achieving students should get these teachers. The principal acts like she should work on a cruise ship as the activities director. Sadly, there is very, very little parent involvement. Kudos those very few teachers who actually make a difference at that school because they actually love the work that they do. Most of them are just there for the paycheck and all the vacations they get throughout the year. Also, school needs to come off the year round calendar. It doesn't work!
