Normandy might have been the coveted school a decade ago, but now it’s the school to avoid (particularly because of the current principal). The current principal acts as if she is trying to destroy the school. Our personal experiences and the experiences that other parents have shared with us are downright shocking. She defends bullies, victim-blames, doesn’t support the teachers, and has an obsessive need to be in control… and these are only the from the stories that we have heard about. We had wonderful experiences with the teachers at Normandy, but these great teachers are stifled by a principal who refuses to support them.Parents should follow the example of the teachers and long-time families at Normandy: leave Normandy and go to another school ASAP.

We had an amazing experience with this school. My son went there from 1st-6th grade. He started experiencing issues and went on an IEP in 2nd grade, but with consistent meetings, communication and partnership with the teachers, counselor and principal, was successfully taken off the IEP program and continued to excel and achieve above average test scores. I felt that we had a real partnership with the teachers there and that they communicated between grades to make sure our son was placed with the right teachers that would suit his learning style each year. I do feel that there is room for improvement with bullying at school, but in my opinion that's an issue that needs to be addressed to and handled by parents as much if not more than by the teachers and administration.

When we started here it was one of the highest rated schools in the district. We were excited to get choiced in and happy for a little while. Then it started to slip slowly. The amount of homework, testing, and bullying started to increase, with no help or intervention from the administration. There are some GREAT teachers there, but unfortunately the terrible outnumber and outweigh them. If you are a lower income family, be prepared to be sneered at often and be an outcast. If you don't have time to volunteer for EVERYTHING or be part of the PTA/PTO group, having your concerns or thoughts heard will be impossible. So if High School cliques are still your thing and you don't care if your kid is disrespectful, then this is your school.Hopefully the great teachers at this school don't burn out and become bad, there were truly some great ones.

I love the teachers at Normandy. They make Normandy a great school to go to. My children's needs are always met and challenged. There is a great community at this school with the parents, staff and children. The current principal was horrible with lack of communication and past her effectiveness. I have met the new principal several times and she is going to be wonderful. She is attentive to the children and easy to communicate with. I'm very excited to see what she does for the next school year. Go Knights!

We love our school and our community! We have multiple children who are all excelling and happy! The teachers and staff are great, our parent volunteeres are amazing, and we chose the best school for our family. We have a new principal and we all have high expectations that she will continue to drive success at Normandy.

There is a lot of work do be done at Normandy to be a great school again. The principal is is less than to be desired, no reply's on multiple emails, does not follow through, and lies to parents and teachers.

We love this school! My son has been in Normandy since 11st grade. He has made leaps and bounds in his academics and education. Great teachers and great curriculum! Love Saxon math use! It's a great school!

Stay away from Normandy Elementary. We moved to the area from out of state. Two of our children when to Normandy for one year (3rd and 6th grades) and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. The principal is REALLY bad. We had to request a meeting with her 4 times before getting a response. Just to clarify, she did not even acknowledge our emails and phone calls until the 4th request. Finally had a one on one with her to talk to her about our daughters academic needs and learning style. Her standardized test scores went from entering the school in the 79th percentile, down to the 45th percentile at the end of the year. She made no progress academically at Normandy. In fact, she regressed. The principal assured us she would set our daughter up for success in the 4th grade. Upon meeting the teacher our daughter was placed with for the next year, she chose to spend her 5 minutes with us to talk about her depression and how expensive it was to do laundry at a laundry mat. No questions about our daughter; No background about her and her teaching style; And when we referred to our meeting with the principal assuming she had been briefed on the situation, she responded that she had no idea what we were talking about. This principal and this school did absolutely nothing to set our child up for a successful academic year, even though we assured them we were in this together and willing to do what ever we needed to do from home to support our daughter as well. Lastly, our older daughter attended 6th grade there, and it wasn't any better. She has an Advanced Learning Plan and has been in Gifted and Talented classes since 2nd grade. The 6th grade reading teacher knew all of this and chose to give her reading materials all year at a 4th grade reading level. When we brought it to his attention, he gave her another book at an even lower level. Additionally, we questioned why she didn't receive a 4 out of 4 on a writing summary. He responded that "Oh, I didn't give her the entire assignment so she didn't the ability to earn a 4 out of 4." Wait what?? In summary, there are many other Jefferson County Public schools out there to choose from. Don't waste your time at this one.

Love the teachers! Not a fan of the PTO, or the principal! Enrollment is dropping, and test scores are going down. This school is on the down slide, through no fault of the teachers. Moving my student after the end of the year. I definitely don't recommend Normandy to anybody. There are much better schools in Jeffco! Get out while you can!

We have been at Normandy for many years now, and I am very pleased with the teachers and general curriculum (NOT common core). Standardized testing, not so much. The teachers my children have had communicate very well and are absolutely amazing! The principal on then other hand is a different story. There is a HUGE lack of communication with parents on the part of the administration. Parents need to come to school and be more involved so they can see what really goes on behind the scenes, as it would be a big eye opener! Many people leave Normandy because of the principal. This community needs new leadership at this school!

This school is one of the best schools have enrolled my children in. The teachers and staff are excellent and make sure you learn. However I am not very fond of the new principal but that is only my opinion. You should enroll you child/children at Normandy now! It Normandy Elementary is a great school.

Normandy Elementary is meeting and exceeding all of my parental qualifications for a great school. Great curriculum, high staff retention, caring staff, administration who not only know my kids names but mine also. Parents who get and stay involved. Highly recommend it.

This school may rank high in the grades but they are slipping. The previous reviews are correct but it all changed in the 2011-2012 school year. Many parents have noted this and are having trouble getting the teachers to pull together for education. They are too focused on technology at need to get back to the books and follow through with teaching the kids on forever skills and not just teach them to memorize the material for the day. Stear clear of any of the advanced classes because the children are not taught how math works and how reading complrehsion is more important than reaching the AR point goal.

The staff is very caring and the curriculum challenges each student at their learning ability.
