Honestly overall amazing school. I’m a former student here (currently a high school student). I feel like the teachers always do a great job in trying to include everyone and make it fair, though some teachers do have very clear favorites in the class. The school really tries to involve fun into the learning, through many field trips and experiences. I’ll list a few. Market day in 2nd grade, growing butterflies in 3rd grade, taking a trip to the museum in 4th grade, Ameritowne in 5th grade, outdoor lab in 6th grade. All of these experiences have been AMAZING. This school really pushed me above what I ever expected, and gave me so many memories that I cherish. 100% recommend this school. It was my 2nd family. It also helped me grow a lot academically. I came into CHE not knowing a single English word, or how to do any type of math. I left it being one of the best readers/writers in my class and doing math a grade level above mine. Best elementary school ever.

We have attended a variety of schools for different needs, and we have always been pleased with the care and instruction and interactions with this school. Our children have a variety of learning needs, and they strive to meet their needs in most situations.

I have 2 children that attended Columbine Hills Elementary. They both have very unique education needs and the school did a great job meeting those needs. One child was identified as gift and talented and needed an Advanced Learning Plan. The teachers worked hard to meet her needs academically and socially. My other child is dyslexic. She has had a very positive experience, especially with the SPED department. The school is very intentional about using appropriate research based interventions to meet the needs of all students. My daughter received an Orton-Gillingham based reading intervention. The SPED staff understands how to teach the interventions and they partner with the classroom teachers to apply the skills they are teaching in the classroom and they are always working on closing the student’s gaps. The teachers work to make sure that ALL students (not just SPED students) have appropriate accommodations to support learning in the classroom. The school provides ongoing trainings for the staff throughout the year so they are constantly bring in new ideas and strategies. The school has added alternative seating options in classrooms. If I ever had any concerns or questions about my children the teachers always were there to listen and address my concerns. We would problem solve together, if it was need be. During IEP meetings my opinions, ideas and concerns were always address. If changes were needed to the IEP they were done in a timely and appropriate manner. My child is moving on to middle school and I feel Columbine Hills has done everything that they can to prepare her. She has made great growth and feels confident as she makes her transition. She has great accommodations that will help her in middle school. There are so many ways to participate as a parent at Columbine Hills to make sure you are an active part of your child’s education.

The principal is good at this school but she is limited as to what she can do with the union. Teachers have too much control and play favorites. Disabled students should not attend this school. They do not make accommodations nor have the experience to properly educated special needs students. We have been in attendance at this school for 4 plus years...I will not let my younger children attend this school in the future.

We have had children in Columbine Hills from K to 6th and I must say Columbine Hills is a very good school. Just like with any occupation there are some teachers/employees that are outstanding and some that are a little lacking. Overall, we have had wonderful experience with the teachers in every grade. Most have been very communicative for both good and not so good things that happen (yes sometimes things happen when you put twenty 9-year-old kinds in a room together :-) ). I feel like the school is very good about dealing with bullying and make every effort to make a safe environment in the school. The principal is doing a great job and is pleasant to work with and is available when needed.

I am a student at Columbine hills and I have been there for the last six years and from my experience C.H.E is a school with an amazing staff. Including the Principal Christa Wilson she is an amazing principal that encourages physical activity such as a tech run where you collect money for tech and run laps to win prizes. Another thing we do is Tune up Tuesday every Tuesday morning at 7:30 many kids come to school 30 minutes early to get in there physical activity for the day. We also have Fuel Up to Play 60 which is a program sponsored by the NFL where you add up how much exercise you get everyday and if enough kids in your school participate you can get a special visit from a famous NFL player such as DeMarcus Ware . We are also a healthy school we have abandoned almost all unhealthy choices such as soda, chips, and candy. Which really is an amazing way to keep our kids and school healthy. - Dakota

Students are happy and thriving. Teachers and staff are personable. Free all day kindergarten program is a plus. K-6 is also a plus.

I have had at least one of my five children choice enrolled in this school since 2005. We chose this school because of the exceptional teachers and staff who go above and beyond to give the school a comminity feel and to give the kids extra opportunities. They are enthusiastic and work hard to teach in the style that each child learns. We have remained through the years because of their academic growth, the plethora of excellent extra-curricular offerings, great test scores, opportunities to volunteer and be active at the school, and great communication. We have been incredibly pleased with the direction and involvement brought by the new principal last year and look forward to being a part of the community for many more years.

My child is in Kindergarten and loves it. He has come along way and has learned a lot. The communication isn't that great at times , but my son is learning and is improving a lot academically. If he wasn't learning than I'd be really concern. He has a great teacher and a school that really supports him. I'm very greatful and pleased with the improvements he's made. Academically the school is excellent.

My child has been at this school for a couple of years now. I would say the school is ok. I love the small community. The office staff is always so friendly and helpful. This school has terrible communication! I feel a typical child would do fine but a child who does not learn in a typical way will be shuffled through the system instead of getting any sort of help. Bullying is an issueith no communication from teachers or staff. My child came home with a very noticeable mark on the face and no one did anything. Many times the paras who are with the children outside are not paying attention and are not helpful in keeping the children safe and write off any issues they seem more interested in chatting with one another. The staff that does extras like gym, art and music seem to have very little control of the students. We are looking for a new school for next year.

Great community of parents, teachers and students. My kids have gone here since kindergarten and have had wonderful teachers and have made a lot of friends. We have joined the PTA and several other school activities and love it!

My daughter has been going to CHE since Kindergarten, we love CHE. The teachers are wonderful and I have been very blessed with the teachers we have had so far, and the staff is great as well!! The PTA is amazing and they do a lot for our kids, sponsor the Halloween Dance, Spring Fling, Science Fair Family Night, they give money to the school for curriculum and technology and much more! The PTA has made a lot of recent changes, and has been very welcoming to any parent who wants to be be a part of the PTA . I love being involved with things going on at the school and the PTA makes that possible.

Very poor principal leadership. Elitist PTA. Teachers do not communicate with parents except at conferences...and sometimes this is too late to address problems. Principal highly favors mothers over fathers regarding educational communication. Fifth and sixth grades are now combined to deal with student loss.

Loved the school when my kids were in Kindergarten & 1st grade. After that, it was downhill. The school claims they won't tolerate bullying, but it's only talk. When it was happening to my daughter, they did absolutely nothing about it. The principal is inaccessible on an everyday level (the old principal was so much better) & forget joining the PTA. If you aren't already part of their crowd, you will never feel welcome.

We have had numerous issues with his teacher, and scheduled meetings with the principal, but nothing has changed. Then, in November, another student held an open pair of scissors to our son's throat and threatened him violently. We were never even contacted by the school about the event, but found out by a guardian of the child who did it almost 3 months later. It is ridiculous!
