After reading the negative reviews, I feel they are left by people more upset about the structure of learning because of state requirements versus what Bevis has to offer while maintaining state expectations and requirements. Majority of teachers are organized, positive, and have great communication with parents. Parent engagement is high and the PTA enthusiastically supports the school and students. I have four children who have attended the school and one with an IEP. The support staff for kids with IEPs is significantly stronger than other public elementary schools and the principal has a very active presence amongst the students. After being with the school for over two years now, we are very happy.

This is our first year at Bevis since we just moved from a very good school district in the Chicago suburbs. We have been so very impressed with everything Bevis offers! The curriculum is more challenging by far than what my girls were being taught at a very high rated school in Illinois. Bevis is top notch from the teachers to the office staff and principal. We cannot recommend it enough!!

We moved from Pennsylvania to Florida and we’re excited to move from one highly rated elementary school to another. Unfortunately this was not the case. The focus at Bevis is teaching to the standards and following the strict structure. My 2nd and 5th grader grew bored and begged not to go to school because it was so boring and painful. Perhaps this is a reflection of the large military population in FishHawk where families welcome the strong discipline, lack of creativity and inflexible structure. If you are military you’ll feel right at home.

For such a large campus, it’s very clear that they do their best. We transferred here after being in a small Montesorri. I wasn’t sure how my kids would adjust but, they made friends easily and took their teachers well. My youngest has an IEP and the school has a lot of staff to help his various needs. He has a speech teacher, a small reading group , and a behavior social skills coach on top of his regular teacher and aid. There’s so many people involved that he can’t really get away with anything (despite his best efforts!). Both if my kids enjoy school. Office staff is unbelievably friendly. Principal is extremely involved in every aspect. I’m continuously surprised at how often I run into her at every event (even when I volunteer for lunch- she’s in there interacting with students). It’s a very good, supportive, and safe school from my experience.I wish teachers were more friendly and interactive with parents but I guess they have to have boundaries in place? They are organized, enthusiastic and do their jobs. They reply to emails and concerns. It’s just a different relationship than what we had at our previous school.

A+ Bevis is an awesome school. We are so blessed to be able to send our two boys to Bevis. It’s not an easy school and the parents need to be involved to succeed.

It's in a great community which really makes it such a great school. The culture is one that strives for excellence. Teachers stay on top of communication, listen to parent concerns, and follow through. I feel my 5th grader is being well prepared for middle school with academics and organizational skills. Administrators are caring and friendly. My children have had a few problems and teachers and administrators have reacted appropriately. The PTA is very efficient and effective. The whole school runs very well.

Horrible.Student teacher ratio is actually 18:1. My child has an IEP from another state. Several months prior to the move I sent down her IEP asking if it would be honored. I spoke to several people at the school who told me, yes, they could honor the IEP. Now, the school is not even coming close to giving the services my child needs. My child is slowly regressing and the school continues to give me a line that they want what is best for the child. My concerns have been extremely voiced to the school and they continue to be ignored.I also find the work the kids are doing does not even come close to the past school we attended in another state. I have often heard that it is the Florida school's prerogative to reduce services for a child and now I am finding this to be true with Bevis.

My daughter, who is now a 9 th grader, attended Bevis, and I now have a 5 th grader there. It is a wonderful school with the most caring and professional staff and faculty. My children's academic needs were met and they were challenged through the rigor of the AGP program. I feel so fortunate that my children have had the opportunity to be at such a top notch school! Way to go Bevis!

I had a lot to say, but this review from 2008 about summed it up. Seems as nothing has changed in 7 years. This is not the school for anyone wanting a true, meaningful learning experience, and I tried very much to drink and enjoy the "koolaid.""Posted May 06, 2008 - a parent My wife and I moved to Fishhawk for the specific purpose of going to this school. We read about the rating and thought we were going to get a superior level of instruction for our children. We were sadly mistaken. We have been disappointed from day 1. We have had multiple meeting with the teacher, guidance counselor and vice principal all to no avail. Their response to our concerns was 'well that isn't how we do things here at Bevis.' This school is all about the FCAT and only that. Don't expect any quality of music, art or physical education. At the elementary level they don't even have recess for the kids on a daily basis! The expectations of the administration is for the kids to be robots and sit at their desk all day long learning how to take the FCAT. I say no thank you! Stay away! "

We moved to fishhawk from NY a little over a month ago and we love bevis. this is the best decision we have ever made. Where we used to live it was un heard of to rid bikes or even walk to school. Our daughter received the warmest welcome and loves it. We actually went to the local pizzeria and the teacher saw my daughter and made it a point to come over and talk to us. We have never been happier.

This is an amazing school! The teachers expect that all students can and will achieve in their classroom and tend to the needs of each student. Mrs. Cochrane and Mrs. Thoms are amazing administrators. Keep up the good work Bevis!

This school is top notch! The administration is amazing. Mrs. Cochrane takes the time to know each and every student attending Bevis. I was amazed when she welcomed my child, by name, on the first day of school !

More Bevis cool aid please. Who is keeps posting that this school is "outstanding" and the kids are "ahead" and we're all for "lucky" to send our kids here? This was not my experience at all. Like others have mentioned I choose this neighborhood for this school's reputation. I have been very disappointed. Children are passive learners forced to wear uniforms, sit in assigned seats at lunch and they don't have recess everyday. Homework is correlated with higher standardized test scores (but not actual performance) so there is plently assigned. You know what your child has for homework based on the day of the week. Zero creativity. This is the least child centered elementary school I have even seen. Your child will dread school by third grade. Bevis does not care about best practices, only data. When I finally sent my oldest to a different elementary school she was behind in math. But she scored fine on the FCAT so that's all that matters, right? If your child is average they do not want you to attend this school. They want you to choice somewhere else. Ask a question and you will be labeled a troublemaker. So drink that cool aid, conform and go take another AR test.

This school is outstanding. The fortunate children who attend school there are a step ahead of other students. The teachers and administrators provide a loving and nurturing environment. Most of the faculty members go above and beyond what is required of them. My three children have never had an unhappy day there.

i am a 7th grader, who now goes to Orange Grove Middle Magnet school. Bevis was the worst school i have ever stepped foot in! They don't teach for the sake of the kids, but for the FCAT! I have serious Athsma, so i missed school. I was made to feel guilty and awful about it. teachers htere show favoritism, and the PTA women were just like a bunch of high school girls! Gossiping and talking about other parents who don't drive fancy cars. Please stay away from this "blue ribon school"

Awesome - incredible staff who are passionate about teaching and genuinely care for their students. Academically this school is rigorous and prepares students for middle school so that when they arrive they are WAY ahead of their peers! Just a fabulous school.

When kids exit this school in 5th grade they are light years ahead of those in surrounding schools. The principal is outstanding, knows the kids by name and is involved. It is an A rated school because they teach the kids. We moved to Fishhawk b/c of the school and it was an EXCELLENT decision. Every school has its negatives and people want to point this out when they don't get their way, but it is hard to argue being a top ranked school. PE, Art, etc is a STATE issue not the school. Just b/c your child can't handle the school, doesn't make this school inferior. Home school them, they can be class Valedictorian of 1.

Fabulous school, outstanding administration, dedicated teachers and staff!!!! Bevis is a wonderful school where children s individual needs are always taken into account every day. The principal knows every student by name and always goes out of her way to talk to and get to know students and their families. She is without a doubt one of the most caring and supportive school leaders a school could have. Bevis is so successful on the FCAT because they focus on providing good quality instruction for students. I have had children at Bevis for eight years and with my oldest now in middle school I can t express how grateful I am for the education they received at Bevis. My oldest was a struggling reader in the 1st grade and with the supports and education she received throughout her years at Bevis she is thriving academically and made straight A s throughout her entire 6th grade year! I moved to Fishhawk 9 years ago so that my children could attend Bevis Elementary it was one of the best decisions I have ever made!

This school is so overated! The principal in condescending and rude unless you have money, social status or on her Board in some capacity. It's amazing to me just how many people are fooled by this school. To put it bluntly, everything is not as good as it seems. Be Careful before you reassign your child here or attend here coming in from another state. They are FCAT driven and that's all that matters to them. I wouldn't even give them a one star if I didn't have to.

What a fantastic school! The administration and teachers do an excellent job supporting, challenging and motivating ALL students. Administration is very involved, responsive to parents and does an excellent job communicating with all families. We've moved here 6 years ago with our 3 children, our oldest child (who has a learning disability) was behind academically and struggling. The support and resources he received from the teachers and counselor at Bevis was outstanding! He has gone on to have a successful and positive middle school experience. Bevis has given all 3 of our children a strong foundation and has prepared them to be successful. We have been fortunate to attend Bevis!
