I absolutely love this school. The educators and administrators are fair and consistent. The PTA is organized and effective in providing quality programs for parents, teachers and students. Common Core standards are implemented with fidelity and I love that my children teachers hold them accountable. I’ve noticed that many students parents are not involved and their children become indifferent and show behavioral issues. Most of the students are behaved and learning but some students are disruptive and disrespectful due to lack of parent engagement/involvement at the school. Some parents lack holding their children accountable and it ruins it for those students that come to learn. Many students come from low income backgrounds and it is reflected in test scores. My children consistently perform above due to our involvement and of course our rigorous learning at school and home. I wish more of the disruptive students could have more structure to ensure success but I also understand the school is not a day care. It’s a learning environment. One parent was so nasty to administrators and teachers because her son wasn’t honest with her. Of course she took his word because it’s her baby, “why would he lie?” Meanwhile, as a parent involved I have witnessed this child talk back, bully students, and harass staff. You can’t make people raise their kids in a way that makes them value education. If your child is about education this is definitely the place for them.

My overall experience was bad. I have a special needs child and the staff didn't seem to be adequately trained. There was a paraprofessional that scared my child to the point where she didn't want to attend school. My advice to parents is to be active in your child's education.

I think the teachers are very unprofessional. After being bullied for about a month, my son finally fought back and was suspended. The AP then questioned my son, trying to get him to say that he was in a gang. He is in 1st grade and didnt even know what a gang was. Then when he returned to school his teacher told his entire class that he was suspended. That was not their business. This is the 2nd incident in which a teacher here has caused one of my kids to get harassed because of telling their business. Other than the unprofessionalism, lack of responsibility, and inability to professionally solve conflicts, its a ok school.

This school way of resolving issues is the worst by far and only causes damage to your child in the end. Having a problem with a teacher their solution is switch them around to as many classes as possible instead of holding the teacher responsible. My child for months amongst all the other issues I have encountered with this school was made to sit for months facing a wall not even in view of the board without my knowledge. Not one person from administration would even admit to having this knowledge even after dealing with ongoing issues. You can change the class but it still does not change the effectiveness of the administration or teachers being held accountable for any of their actions. Worst experience by far. You say change school ok try that and see how difficult it is for you even after speaking to the Superintendent! Prayer is truly your only weapon to remain calm. I'm sure the grass is not always greener somewhere else, however to be placed in a low ranking school and still have to deal with ineffective conflict resolution is even worst! Stay mindful of your kids acts however take somethings with a grain of salt coming from those teachers and administration...do your research cause they don't care anything about lieing and denying!

No matter what is going wrong with the teachers at this school concerning your child the administration will ALWAYS try to make it as if your child is the issue or the parent is! My child never have any major issues with teachers or students in no type of setting until attending Cedar Hill Elementary! They treat you children like they are inmates and they are the prison guards! They focus more on your child becoming a robot then on academics. I had to mention seeing classwork that was being done at the school before I even knew exactly what was going on in class! This new core curriculum standards allow teachers to not teacher because all they are suppose to do is follow guidelines just for the students to past a TEST! No real teaching going on. If you ask about the new dumbing down version of math base Ten that should have been in play years ago they act as if the parent is stupid or that your child does not know math, not because your child already know an advance version and to be taken back to doing something so simple that takes too many steps just to get an answer you could have gotten in one or two steps. They say it's to make sure they understand Cleary which I understand but what if you already understand how to get the so basic answer and can explain how! It is just another opportunity for them to make teachers without a teaching degree in teaching to feel smart because anyone with a degree nowadays can become a teacher! All they have to do is follow a plan that's already laid out that's not helping students that have already mastered the same concepts. The school system has found a way to take the parents being apart of their children education away, so that they have total control of what and how your child learn. With that being the case teachers at this school and others have started to focus more on normal children behaviors and making them a major issue because pretty much they don't go to school to really teach so they focus more on being behavioral analysis and punishers. So many students not just my own have lost their confidence in their teachers and for some reason just because they are adults the teacher have lost human respect for their student especially at this school! They pick favorites and that's only because they were able to brain wash that particular child! Please stop with the kids are different then they were back in the day

Great school!!!! I'm very pleased with the education my son is getting at Cedar Hill, teachers are great!

I'm very disappointed about this school. The teacher never responds to the notes I send her. My son is in 2nd grade and he has been bull a lot he comes home bruise from some kids, spitting on his face and pushing him around. This school is very unorganized and this school is an embarrassment.

My child is going into the fifth grade and what we have dealt with in the 4th grade 2012-2013 year was horrifying and an embarrassment to this school. The AP MS. Valrie is the least to be desired in regards to handling situation of BULLIES on and off the bus at this school. My son was verbally threaten several times and even assaulted 15 times to his ribs area on the bus with NO punishment to the bully not even a suspension off the bus. Yes I do agree with the comment below that the TEACHERS not Administrators but the TEACHERS at this school are WONDERFUL. My child every year because of the teachers at this school exceeded the CRCT. TEACHERS ARE WONDERFUL! Administration is the least to be desired! Personal opinion put your child in karate and teach your child to fight back if necessary!
