While some of the teachers at this institution are kind and seem to have a genuine care for the students and their education, there are some staff members that have made our experience at Steve Schorr less that pleasant. There was an incident involving my daughter about a month ago or so, and while my 8-year-old daughter was in the wrong in this particular situation, the principal did not witness the actual event and exaggerated the story, even after her teacher explained what had actually happened, (my daughters teacher has never had an issue with her and has even expressed how great of a student and "on task" she is in her class). I now have zero trust for the principal because of this experience and assume whatever is said to me, moving forward, that everything she says will be fabricated or exaggerated. While attempting to have a conversation with her, she continuously cut me off and proceeded to speak over me, rather that listening to what I had to say. There was an incident that took place yesterday as well, I was picking my kids up early for appointments, and the assistant principal asked to speak with me in her office, all while my daughter is sobbing, I assumed it was something serious. She pulled me into the office to tell me that my 8-year-old was not staying on task, along with a few other students...this is not an emergency, nor do I feel that requires a trip to the assistant principal's office. I feel like they could have used that moment to educate these kids rather than scorn them for being kids.... this is an elementary school, and these children are not always going to be able to maintain focus and discipline.I absolutely think they should be doing their assignments and not playing when its "work" time, but I think some of these staff members forget that these are just small children and that they work in an elementary school. We have had issues with this school since my children have started, there has been bullying from, not just fellow students, but also from some of the staff. Some of these staff members, maybe shouldn't work in an elementary school if they have a constant issue with kids being kids and lack patience and understanding to approach them differently. With that being said, there are a few lovely teachers and staff members that care greatly about these kids, and I greatly appreciate those individuals.I really hope the rest of the year can be a better experience than what it's been thus far.

I have had two children go to this school and every year they have had excellent, caring teachers. We love Schorr ES.

Schorr USED to be good, at least for kinder and first grade. I agree with the bullying, whether it be from students or even teachers, nothing will be done. Principal Brown is not very approachable, does not seem to care when there is an issue within the classroom, Safekey people do NOT help with homework, they look like they're just there to babysit, it's no wonder CCSD system sucks. You are better off moving to an area where schools have better ratings or getting into a charter/private school if possible.

Teachers are great but without good management backing them they can only do so much! Notice how old these reviews are! Don't know what happened it the past few years but Principal Brown is horrible, rude and does not care about children! My child's teacher told me that she suggested my son has a learning disability and asked for the Principal's help to get him an IEP plan and be tested. She said the Principal told her if the parents aren't complaining then No. Wow! The teacher had to tell me on the side that I should seek help outside of the school. Sad! Spoke to the Principal herself in person and she was very rude and told me there was nothing she could do about my son falling behind in class.

So far we have really enjoyed Schorr. My son had Mrs. Carino in K and Mrs. Jacobs in 1st, both great, compassionate teachers that challenged the kids. This school has a very open door policy for volunteering, meeting with teachers etc. Mrs. Cortney (Librian) started a reading program for the 1st grade last year based on parent volunteers coming in and working one on one with the kids. I thought it was a great program; however, unfortunatly there were not very many parents that volunteered to do this. If you want to know what is going on in your childs school I would highly recommend helping out in the classroom, PTA etc. You won't/don't know until to you go!

There is no supervision at all at the beginning of school. Kids are running wild and run in front of cars. They only have 2 ladies that are lazy and do nothing

I love this school! The teachers and staff are great! They always seem to have something fun going on for the kids. Two of my children have gone here, and my youngest son will be starting kindergarten here this year. I wouldn't send him anywhere else!

Steven Schorrs Elementary School started out good year 2011-2012, but has fallen from my criteria as to what a school system is to teach our children. There learning and growth abilities are not consistent. No cross guards where should be at this school location. You have to provide school supplies for the school in which this is the schools responsibility. Have more activities for a parent to come out of pocket then any school I have been involved with. They want you to volunteer, they want their paychecks when time to get paid. I need a paycheck to keep my household running. Cutting programs where is necessary for children to continue to exhale and I am not satisfied at all with learning fundaments at school any longer.

Steven Schorr Elementary School is one of the best schools in Vegas/Henderson. I have a son who has attended six years and a daughter who has attended two years. The principal and academic coordinator have vast experience and are very involved in all aspects of the school. They have adjusted to the reduced budgets beautifully. They understand the importance of all the "specials" such as science, art, music, PE, and library and these programs are still active and thriving. There have been additional programs available for parents to volunteer inside or outside the classroom. I have seen an increase of volunteers the last couple of years and it has a positive effect on the school. Most importantly, my kids have had fabulous teachers each year. My son is gifted which effected him in the earlier years, but the teacher recognized it and got him tested for GATE. The GATE program has made a significant change to how my son feels about school. Overall, this school is amazing and listens to the parents and students. A+!

This is an OUTSTANDING school! I highly recommend anyone to be apart of this school. The Staff and Teachers are Great people, and will try to help you with any situation you have. Teachers, keep you updated on how you child is doing in class and out of class (Hallways, Library, P.E); they send you emails and send home letters. Overall, this school is a 5 STAR SCHOOL.

The BEST public school around! My kids came from a private school into Schorr and I couldn't be happier! The principle is very accomodating and helpful. He loves the school and so does the founder, Steven G. Schorr. He takes an active role in doing many things for our students year round. Including hosting a golf tourney so our school DOESN'T have to ask our parents for MONEY through many fundraisers. More parents need to step up and volunteer, that's for sure. But the ones that do, make a HUGE difference in the lives of the children at the school. Big applause for them too! And the TEACHERS are FAB! Kids only get swtiched around from class to class if the student is a problem child or because hte parents are never happy! This is inregards to the last comment posted in July!

Terrible School. My son has had multiple teachers this year and I can't even keep track of them all. All the school does all year long is beg for money. Absolutely would never recommend this school.
