Everything about this school is great. I have three sons at this school for 3 years now, and my 5th grader is about to move onto middle school while my Kindergartner is just joining. There is a gifted program for the brighter kids. They feel very safe with the security officer on site. The drop off and pickup lines are coordinated and carefully planned. They have great teachers and administrators who work with the parents to guide the students. They emphasize physical education and arts and music as well which is going missing in some schools nowadays.

My daughter just started Kindergarten at Oakstead and she’s loving it. Her teacher is great and communicates well with the parents. My daughter also loves taking the bus. I’m so glad I chose to live in the area that is zoned for Oakstead Elementary.

We recently moved from Westchase which is an area with known great schools. My son also went to McKitrick Elementary this year (known to be a "public private school" and now, comparing the three schools I can tell my son is happier here than at the other two schools. (Yes, 3 schools in one year!... not great!) Luckily my son has adapted very well, and I believe the school staff had a lot to do with it. They are friendly and very welcoming. My son is a very smart, friendly, but very active kid and Oakstead Elementary gives him enough freedom to be himself and make new friends but at the same time they enforce discipline. I would say it's a good balance. Academically, to my surprise, it's more advanced in math than the 2 prior schools. Communication between parents and teachers is accurate and daily (via email). I have to say I underestimated this school and we couldn't be happier here...

Oakstead staff are just plain rude to parents. I was yelled at by a teacher doing parking attendant duties for parking in the wrong spot. Mind you there are no labels and it was an open parking spot, not reserved for anything. I thought it might just be one person having an off day, but ever since then I have encountered many other occasions where the different staff exhibit the same culture of rudeness with a condescending attitude. Just be polite to people! Parents don't all get your internal rules and principles because we don't attend there. So stop treating us like little kids. Just terrible attitudes at this school.

I have two children who attended/attend OES. Both of them started in K and one has just completed her elementary years. For those who mention the school being too full which is understandable, however, that is not OES's fault. The LOL area is growing and building faster than the schools are being built. I have been immensely pleased with the entire staff at OES and I feel they do a great job considering the quantity of students they each have in their classroom. Each teacher has taken the time to get to know my children; as each of them are very different; and the office staff have always called my children by their name and sometimes even a nickname depending on the staff member. So, thank you OES for all that you have done and still do for my children! In fact, my daughter and her friends still plan on attending the school events since most of them have siblings still in OES. They obviously love this school!

our daughter is in her 2nd year at oakstead and we LOVE it! The office and staff are super friendly and organized. We have had wonderful teachers who really make the kids feel like family. The school does a lot of activities throughout the year for the kids, which is fun! Our daughter is excelling academically and I owe it to the teachers, they really take the time to sit with each child individually to help them reach different learning goals and find the best ways that suits them to achieve them! Our daughter has gained so much confidence at this school and we will be sending our son for kindergarten in a few years.

We had our kids here for a few years. It is just too big. Its K-5 and there are close to 1400 students. The classes that my children were put into had well above the number of students they should have. Both of my children are sensitive and it was heart breaking to drop them off each day. They were just a number at this school. The drop off and pick up is a nightmare. I ended up spending almost an hour and a half in my car each day. I am still stumped as to why there is not a staggered drop off and pick up time for different grades. That would alleviate some of the congestion and traffic that takes place outside of the school daily. On a positive note the teachers were great. They seemed positive and helpful. I just feel as though the school is too big to house as many kids as they have. Its a shame I think if Oakstead had half the number of kids or one third it would be a fantastic school where kids could thrive and grow. Unfortunately, kids are not treated as individuals. There is no way a teacher can honestly get to know a child in the size of the classes. I opted to homeschool my children this year, until I can find a school with smaller class sizes.

Aesthetically it is a beautiful school. If your are into "clicks" and snobby staff, this is the school for you, my son had a FANTASTIC teach for 4th grade last year. I am still trying to figure out WHAT my daughters retiring first grade teach taught her. Even if you're actively involved with your child's education, at this school you have to be MORE involved, otherwise you do not find out pertinent information unless your child tells you, or it is the end of the year and too late. When asking administration to call you back, be prepared to make that call 5-10 times before getting a return call. MUCH room for improvement.

We had heard wonderful things about this school prior to moving out this area and I was excited for my children to attend. I have been extremely disappointed in this school. I feel like there is no consistency with the kids and what they are learning. I was not happy with my son's progress and kept raising my concern with the teacher throughout the school year. Finally in March she tells me she has concerns about his academic progress. I had one conference with her early in the year and she was completely unprepared. I feel like the use of technology and regular learning is not balanced. I was told they were learning how to type on the computer and use spell check yet the teacher didn;t believe in spelling tests and my son's spelling was so horrible that I was coming home from work and having him do spelling tests. If I had more options, I would be looking at other schools. Not happy at all.

Our little one is attending this school and 3rd child. To put it simple Mrs. Peloquin rocks, she embraces technology and send updates regularly about reading material and websites to read from. We have two other kids studied in other elementary school which was rocking but lost its edge, thanks to Mrs. Kimpland's stewardship and Staff's teamwork this school is keeping its edge compared to other elementary schools around (including a Charter one). The key thing to Student's success is Parent's involvement, approach Staff with respect for handling 1000+ kids day-in & day-out, paricipate in meetings and provide constructive feedback in meetings. Together we can make it better by fixing any minor flaws.

Oakstead is an amazing school. A lot of activities and family involvement. The kids are always challenged and special needs are met efficiently. I wouldn't change a single thing about the school. My kids have been here since Kindergarten and they have thrived, they are now in 4th grade. Go Otters!!!!!!
