We moved from Rio Vista Elemetary in Anaheim to El Moro in Laguna Beach where my son has attended 3rd grade via virtual academy and now 4th grade in person. Standards were low at Rio Vista and my son fell behind, we thought he was doing well! El Moro raised the standards and, on their own, provided him with extra support to catch him up. With such a beautiful location, teachers are happy to be here and want every student to succeed. They are kind and patient, excited to teach bringing love and fun into their classrooms and are strong advocates against bullying. The principal is on top of it, kind, prompt, concerned for every students well being and success. Their school events are big! Wow! People really show up for their kids here, it's amazing to see a community that cares so much about education and emotional support. As a school that puts mental health over grades, the love and support they shower our kids with here is shown in their test scores.

I agree that this school is a powerhouse of academics. They take their high academic standing very seriously. They are on par with private schools we have attended. Attendance is tightly monitored. I find the PTA to be a well oiled machine designed to keep maintain their high academic standing. The school is not particularly diverse ethnically or economically because the city is not diverse in those ways. The teachers are friendly, involved and fun. There are seasonal activities throughout the year aimed to educate too. I don't however find a lot of the PTA representatives to be particularly friendly. They are business women with an agenda. We experienced a bit of bullying around my daughter's glasses, which she promptly lost. I think the school is a superior school to most California public schools. I wish the PTA were a bit more warm and fuzzy.

The academics at this school are high and challenging which I had heard from many of my neighbors before sending my son there. I was suprised before my son started there that not one of those parents I met sent their children to this school even though they felt the academics were excellent. I was told by almost every parent that the reason they changed their children to private schools was because of bullying at the school. However, I did enroll my son in the school. Unfortunately I found that they were correct about the bullying. It's pretty bad.

This school is pure and simple a powerhouse of education and development. From my son's experience in the Laguna Beach public schools - first grade - only 17 kids were in his class and he received plenty of attention. His teacher was top notch - young and highly educated and motivated. The classroom is fully decked out in high tech, including full touch sensitive video screen instead of blackboards or whiteboards. Students can take extra classes after school, in academics, arts and sports. ....and parent involvement in fund raising and support has been very heavy. The leadership is dedicated, motivated, highly effective and focused on improvement. Some say El Morro and Laguna Beach schools are "public private schools." I would agree with that....
