I wouldn't recommend this school. They bully their students. Kids can't learn with the way they orchestrate stuff here.

My son was in kindergarten when his father passed away, and his teachers and the counselor support system, or extremely helpful to my son and I. He is an uprising second grader now, and I look forward to continuing his elementary learning career at the school. Each teacher takes the time to get to know how much child learns and give him the patients that he needs in order to succeed, and I am beyond grateful for them!

Our little guy started here in kindergarten and we are very happy! He excelled and learned so much in kindergarten and first grade has been wonderful. We look forward to the years to come! Shocked that JPES isn't an 8 or 9 to be honest.

The administration at this school is ineffective. Bullying is a large problem. Administration here is out of touch with what’s going on in the classrooms and good kids continue to suffer. Do don’t bring issues or concerns to the attention of this staff as they will not offer try to a solution, just excuses and justification. There is no justification for bullying. There is no justification for prolonged issues and children who normally enjoy school hating school and dread going. Red Flags are all over this school. The GATE program is a joke on some levels. Very disappointed in Pye. If moving to the area, search developments not in the Pye attendance zone.

My son has attended JPES since 2nd grade and will finish 5th grade there in a few short weeks. While it's not perfect (no school is!), the administration and the teachers are always willing to discuss any questions or concerns with you and partner with you to do what's best for your child. They take their academics and their character development seriously, and the administration keeps expectations high and run a tight ship. If you're looking for a more "warm and fuzzy" 1980's elementary school experience for you as a parent, you might be disappointed. They don't seem to do a lot of cutesy extra stuff - a few things, but not as much as some of the other schools in the area that have been around forever. This is one of the newer schools in DD2 and they have done a good job of keeping it looking nice. Definitely a diverse student population, which is awesome! Added bonus - there is a nice mix of folks that have lived here their entire lives and people that are new to the area, so if you're considering moving to the area it's been my experience that you're not going to get some of the snobbery about not being from here that you might experience at some other schools in Summerville. LOTS of Boeing and military families' kids go here. Bottom line is that we've had a good experience and I feel like my child has been adequately prepared for middle school. We love living in Wescott and are grateful that our son had the opportunity to be a JPES Explorer.

We moved here from Savannah, and my son has been attending Joseph Pye for the past two years. The new building was one of the deciding factors when we chose the school. It is an efficient, well-planned design, with safety features--such as classrooms separated from the front entry. I love the staff here! I made an appointment with the principal when my son started here, and she thoughtfully and thoroughly answered my many questions. Her #1 priority is safety and that is very comforting for me. Having visited several of the other schools, I can't imagine our son being anywhere else. I love the principal. She is a class act--professional, caring and highly motivated to be the best. It is a new school, built in 2011, and under her leadership, the school is skyrocketing in its achievement. My son has the most amazing teacher this year who respects his individuality and really understands him. She has helped him have the best year of his academic life. I expect the school to continue its success and we're so happy to be a part of it.
