Not impressed. School would be way better with 1/3 the amount of students. There are just too many kids for teachers to teach effectively.

The building of the new 'pretty' school has pretty much ruined the cozy, caring and fun environment of Henley Elementary. There are too many students for the teachers to effectively teach their subjects, or keep all students engaged. The halls are like cows are being herded to and fro. Holiday programs or 'bingo' nights are so jammed packed full of parents/students with no parking many just avoid and do not go to events. The blue zones is a completely embarrassing joke. We are the 2nd town to 'commit' to the blue zones 'way'. They have entered our schools and ruined holiday experiences, no candy, no sugar for the kids. But you will see the teachers eating anything they want during holidays, cupcakes, candy, etc. Why has our town and hospital 'purchased' the right to be blue zones? I seriously wonder how many people in town realize the town has to 'buy in' to the blue zones experience? The high school is blue zones and yet their vending machines are full of red bull, monster energy drinks. But hey, they are healthy because they are 'sugar free', what a crock.Bullying at Henley Elementary is quite bad. It takes going above the principals head to get anything accomplished to get the bully to stop. The principal will blame your child (who is getting bullied) for being bullied. Or try to turn it around on the kid who is being bullied, it must be your fault you are getting bullied, or you should just ignore it, or are you really sure they are doing this? Every excuse to blame your child instead of the bully. Losing the good principal to the Jr. High is what really caused bullying to get out of hand. He would have never allowed kids to treat each other like she does.

The principal is terrible. They claim to be a blue zone school but it all just about control. No sugar is the rule. But on Halloween the teachers walk around eating cupcakes candy and drinking soda, while the kids sit back and watch. They are a terrible role models. There is lots of problems but the more parents complain the more they shrug there shoulders. I give it a 2 out of 10.

I agree with the other reviewer. Once the new principal came in for the 2012-2013 school year things went downhill. Bullying is a big issue here. I had complained about it at least twice to the principal and nothing was ever done to resolve it. There are teachers who appear to not care about making sure that all the students are keeping up and learning as they should. I had volunteered to help in the classroom a few times and was completely appalled at the chaos and lack of respect shown to both the teachers and the other students as well. The kids appear to be out of control here and the service for kids with learning disabilities is lacking to say the least. Definitely not a school I would recommend. Just because they are building a new school does not mean the services, teachers, principal are going to be top notch. FYI, I had about 12 years of experience with this school and have seen the changes for the worst in only the last 3 years. It did used to be a good school. I don't anticipate it being good again until the leader gets replaced. I did end up pulling my son out to home school because of the constant bullying.

This school use to be 4 to 5 star. But with the introduction of their new principal, values, integrity and caring for the students has gone down the toilet. Bullying has become commonplace, along with sweeping it under the rug to not cause problems for the bullies. There are a couple teachers that should be replaced, due to just being plain lazy and not caring enough to help the kids whether it be with homework problems, or turning their back while kids are being picked on. If you send your kids to this school, I recommend as a parent to keep in touch with the teachers and staff to make sure your child is not ignored by teachers or bullied by kids. Hopefully the new construction of the school to be finished in 2015 will bring new fresh faces in the office staff and teacher staff.
