Great school and caring teachers and faculty

Teachers - some great, some terrible.Learning - educational standards and laws and gifted students laws are ignored. Social-emotional - The social-emotional support that they provide is "peaceful corners" in the classroom. The child is told to go there and are not to speak to their parents or guidance counselors when they are having issues (note that it is not a quiet space, just a corner within the classroom). Kids are bullied daily.Special education - EC teachers (a few exceptions) do not speak with parents. They do not support special needs children by following IDEA and 504 laws and processes. They put young children in a room by themselves as punishment, and even force special needs children to do de-humanizing tasks. Safety - There is a resource office on sight and there is a buzzer to get into the door. Sometimes kids are allowed to walk outside to get something they forgot withour anyone watching. Information security is ignored and not up to a minimum standards. Family Engagement - Parents are not permitted into the school except during lunch or a special event. Overall - The school system does not follow laws and regulations, especially when it comes to special needs, information security, literacy, gifted program (doesn't exist in k-2) and their language immersion program. Do not get fooled by the ratings. This school and the entire Dare County Schools system has severe issues, stemmed from the central office. Laws are being ignored and teachers and staff are being misadvised about laws, there is a lack of support in the classrooms, kids are hurt daily on the playgrounds, some with very serious injuries, This is in no reflection of the hard working teachers. Many are terrific and hard working.
