There are some nice things about this school. They tend to be traditional in their values. It's a small school so there are a lot less of the problems facing large schools, like drugs, violence and promiscuity. My son's best teacher so far (now retired) taught there. Students are provided with a laptop. However, it is poorly organized. It is impossible to reach someone by phone. Messages go unanswered. Communication is a joke. Once the school bus was almost 3 hours late and the principals excuse was she was on medication and forgot to charge her phone, so she couldn't call the parents. Even the teachers complain about lack of communication. One year, the teacher was so poor in math that they ended the year in the first chapter of math (granted they started the book in the second semester). The next year ALL of the students struggled. 100% of the kids in my son's class are not returning next year. One teacher lied to us over an issue involving our child. Confidential information is frequently discussed in the hallway. I've overheard things about other students that are not my business. I've seen disdainful attitudes towards parents and I am not the only one who has mentioned it.

I must not be drinking the Koolaid with this school. I have talked to many many who agree that this school is horrible. Multiple stories of people moving because their third grader can not read. Also it seems ( from what I have seen) if you are poor and a slower learner you will get left behind. Yes my child goes to school there this year. BUT it is the last year like the 5 others I know who left last year. Small school just equals lack of structured discipline in the staff and everyone knows your business. An example, staff walking with no shoes on eating chips in the middle of class, that is not a professional appearance. My son has had a fine time there, but I fear for his education.and he is bored with the 3 hours of worksheets and 4 hours of computer games everyday. Just not much room for growth, but given the area growth is not expected.

I love Kirkland Elementary School! It is a 5 star school. As a teacher, parent and grandparent I have had the opportunity to compare this educational facility with several others. The dedication to the students from all staff members is incredible! This school is a very important part of the community in which we live.

My son just completed 6th grade after spending 7 years in the school. I am an educator myself and have been truly amazed at the talents and dedication of ALL staff and administration, both PAST and present. I know several students that have gone on to middle school to become high achieving students. Several families chose Kirkland on open enrollment due to the high quality of education and caring staff.

The new leadership at Kirkland is amazing. Hopefully, under the new administrator Kirkland will return to being the school of choice in this area. The teachers have been great, also the supportting staff, but seemed to have been restricted by poor leadership in the past. Parent involvement is extremely low, maybe that will change now. I lookforward to the changes coming to Kirkland. The educational benefits can only get better for students attending. I will wait for the day that I can change my ratings to reflect a better overall educational system at Kirkland.

Kirkland school has gone down hill over the past few years . The School use to have excellent teachers who worked so well with the students . They had challenging academics ,attentive to each students needs . Kirkland Elementary schools standards are not where they should be at all, THE SCHOOL SHOULD BE ABOUT THE STUDENTS.Every year the number of students attending Kirkland dwindle.
