The pre-k teachers are all very nice from what I can tell when I go volunteer. My child's pre-k teacher is an absolute treasure. I do worry about a para who I think is too rough with the student she is working with. She is a bigger woman and yells at the child to SIT DOWN. I just do not think that is appropriate at that age to get into a child's face and scream at them. The class seems a bit unorganized at times, but I can tell that my child loves her class and her friends and is learning a lot! I like that they are able to eat in the classroom family style. I love the parent engagement and how welcoming they are. I love that the teacher rotates centers and each student has a job to do. I am excited for my child to move on to kindergarten and I know they will be well prepared!

Our experience has varied from building to building. The teachers I have experienced have been very good. The class sizes are too large, 28+ per class is just too many. I know West is over capacity, they need to start redistricting and evening out the numbers. All in all, my kids have had a good experience. I wish there was more support for special needs students. I have seen several that struggle behaviorally and academically when I have volunteered in my children's classrooms over the years and it seems like the teachers have to drop everything to work with student, which leaves the rest of the class to fend for themselves. Maybe they need more teacher assistants to help those students. Besides that, the school has been good for my 4 kids.

As a mother of two Autistic boys I can't wait to move my children out of this school district. Please if your children have sensory issues, ADHD, or autism look for a different school. Last year when my oldest started wandering the school blamed me when he got off campus. Then suspended him and wanted him checked into a hospital. I set up on his IEP for him to have a para. About a month ago I went to pick him up from school early from building C the cafeteria and he's not supposed to be in the cafeteria but eat his lunch in the office where he can't have the opportunity to wander off. No para was with him and he was at the 4th table away from the doors. Another time when they had a show for the parents I got a call after I left asking if I had my son. I told his teacher why don't you check with the para I left him with. She called me back to tell me the para didn't even tell her that he was with her. Top things off I have full custody of my children and no matter how many times I have given my divorce papers to them they still release info to their dad. I can go on and on about this school and the numerous problems we've had but I don't have the time just warning people this sports driven school is not the best when it comes to special education.

My child is enrolled in pre-k this year, but I have a nephew that has gone to Jenks West for the last three years prior to going to intermediate.. The teachers have been wonderful, sending e-mails to my brother-in-law and sister about his progress in classes and letting them know when he's a little out of hand. My nephew has ADHD and it's really hard for him to focus. With all of the communication, however, it's been a lot easier for my sister and BIL to manage his behavior and help him with focusing on whatever homework he may have/need to complete. It's one of the main reasons I want my child in this district besides the great academic rating! Thanks, Jenks West!

I loved my child's teacher, which is the saving grace for the 3 stars, instead of 2 stars. The main principal of West Elementary is never around... ever. She is incredibly poor at acting interested in families and our children - she appears to be a manager (of staff AND parents) rather than a caring, invested administrator. There is no community feel to this school at all. There are way too many students per classroom, as well... 30+ is standard now. Unfortunately, we will be moving out of the district all together because it just isn't a pleasant environment. I realize that this can be taken with a grain of salt because it is a negative review, but honestly, ask around. This is a common feeling among Jenks West elementary families.

My children have been at West Elementary since pre-k and my oldest will be in 3rd this year. I have never ever experienced any of the troubles listed previously The teachers are very caring and really encourage and appreciate parental involvement. Jenks West Elementary is a wonderful school.
