7th graders are just thrown into the middle school with 7 classes unprepared. The principal and assistant principals are not involved enough. Teachers are not trained on how to use Canvas or PowerSchool. Lots of Teacher Pay Teacher assignments and very little from the online textbooks so there’s no telling if my child will be prepared for the next grade. The counselors and teachers offer little support for students with 504s. Very disappointed compared to our experience at JEI. Teachers seem overworked and struggling to put in grades regularly. I did appreciate back to school night where parents could go to each class and review policies in each room, but there was no time to ask questions. My child has to hold it all day because the bathrooms are not safe or clean. There has got to be a solution to the bathroom problems and the halls are too crammed to get from one side of the building to the other in under 4mins. We cannot wait to be out of the Middle School!

I have never heard anything good about Nick Brown and now I know why! He is incredibly dismissive and does not know what is going on in the middle school. Teachers are very disorganized, assignments are from teacher pay teacher and do not necessarily align with the curriculum. I’m very disappointed in the quality of education at the middle school. I believe the problem starts at the top and trickles down to teachers and students.

As a now 9th grader a jenks I have learned that while not the best school jenks middle school did get me through many things I only had a few bad teachers in my 2 years there and my best teacher ever also came from there. If you are a parent or student currently going through or are going to be going to the middle school I highly advise you to know that while the middle school can suck itw only 2 years and I promise you those will fly by and you will love the high school

As a 8th grader at JMS I enjoy coming to jenks its a very fun place and the learning is amazing some teacher may be very strict but some teachers are very nice and respectful the students here are very nice and fun to hang with.

As a Jenks 8th grader my experience has been beyond amazing! I’ve been going to Jenks my whole life and the Middle school did not disappoint. They provide great learning opportunities for all levels of learning(on level, advanced, and special education). Majority of the teachers are very helpful and will even use their spare time to help you out and especially appreciate you advocating for yourself. They mostly have great councilors(there are a few who aren’t great) that will really make you feel listened to and help you figure out a plan going forward. There are plenty of resources for any kind of problem you may have, you just have to be responsible and reach out! It is a very safe environment for those who choose for it to be(iykyk). Students are rarely left out as there is every kind of group of people and programs like WEB to help you get settled when you first arrive. Overall, I have had a great experience here and will really miss it next year. I made lots of great friends and memories and always felt like I belonged.

My children did not have a good experience at the Middle School, despite doing wonderfully in elementary and High School. I am shocked at the lack of supervision in the hallways, cafeteria, drop off/ pick up, in front of the bathrooms, etc. Students cannot use the restroom because there is slap boxing going on or toilets/sinks have been broken, they can't eat in the cafeteria because it is overcrowded. I do not know how Superintendent Butterfield visits and does not see how bad JMS is. Nick Brown will lie to parents faces and turn around and do the opposite thing that he has promised to do. He hides behind his assistant principals. 3 electives are too much for Middle Schoolers, mine were very stressed juggling the course load. The general education teachers genuinely do not look happy, nor will follow an IEP or 504. They give your child an F so that they move to a special education classroom all day, despite making good grades at Intermediate. The turnover is high, especially in special education. Special education rooms are not safe, properly staffed, or engaging, especially the 'moderate' or essentials classrooms. The kids either fight or sit and play games on their Chromebooks. Once we survived and made it to the High School, things did a 180. Take hede of these reviews, JMS will not be a good experience if your child isn't an athlete, very high achieving, white, or considered a popular kid.

I was very disappointed coming to JMS from WI. The teachers were not supportive if you have a child struggling. Bullying and destruction of school property is very bad. The school is overcrowded. There is no reason to have 7 classes except to reduce the huge class sizes. Students are squished like sardines in the halls. Nick Brown is not fit to be a principal, he only cares about the top 10% of students and student athletes. There are not enough electives for our students in special education and ELL students. When sped students fail a class due to lack of para support, it's too bad. They do not care about keeping students safe. I cannot believe JMS is so much different than the elementary, intermediate, and high school. JMS needs a full overhaul to meet the Jenks standard of excellent. I am disappointed that administration has turned a blind eye to what is going on at the middle school. I have heard that 40-50% of 7th graders are failing at least 1 class, this is unacceptable!

If you are looking at Jenks for academics it’s a great choice. If you are Interested in athletics… if you are not a top donator or your child isn’t most popular run because you’ll never get a chance in this district, it’s all about politics Disgusting!

Jenks Middle School is not a good reflection on the JPS district As an 8th grader I am greeted everyday with name calling, violence, and bullying in an environment where I am supposed to feel protected and respected. The teachers here do absolutely nothing to prevent incidents and turn a blind eye when faced with any problem. No problems ever get resolved. After sending multiple complaints to the front office last year about several instances of homophobia, transphobia, and racism, there was never a follow up or a parent meeting or anything of that sort. Minorities are often pushed aside so that the popular kids can walk carefree and pick on whoever they like. Teachers play favorites and expect students to preform adequately despite not fostering an appropriate learning environment. The principles, staff, and students are fostering a hostile environment for queer and trans students. They are at this point purposely making it harder to exist in these spaces as people who don't submit to conformity. Bathrooms are a mess, we are given no privacy, and we are expected to go on about our days as if this is normal. Do not send your kid/s here it will damage their self-worth and mental health. (note: Mrs Shade and Mrs Demuth are the only good teachers here)

I left the school last year and I must say that is was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Some of the kids are high achievers, but their parents rule the school to the point that the administrators are not able to truly control what is going on, instead needing permission from helicopter parents to do anything. The rest of the student body suffers because decisions are made only with the helicopter parents in mind. Administrators refuse to acknowledge that the best interest of students should be at the top of their reasons for making decisions. Teachers are constantly under threat from such parents and teacher interests aren't even considered. To the parents of the majority of the kids here - you have been warned. If your kids aren't in the top 10% then their needs will not be met. If you are not what Jenks considers "wealthy" then you will not be listened to. This goes even for teachers' kids because I had a son there while teaching.

It is a good school for the most part. The atmosphere in the school is you either do well or you fail. The teachers will not monitor grades and it is on the students to keep track of the school work. Keep in mind that the middle school has seven classes a day. It is easy to get buried by the workload and can be very overwhelming if you don't know how to work the system. As for the teachers, it is also kind of hit and miss. They are really good or really bad. For the most part, though teachers are kind of just over-teaching and if you fail it is not a reflection of them but you. I will say though they have some really good extracurricular programs and elective courses. They have very high classes offered but for extracurriculars, you can't just skip around to different sports. If you do an extracurricular it is hard-core. Jenks, in general, is a very large school district, and finding friends can be hard but there are a lot of people so there is a good amount of people from all walks of life. So there is a friend for everyone somewhere. I would say the main things to consider when looking at Jenks is if you can give the student a large amount of supervision and can the student keep track of the intense workload and not get burned out. It is a great place to shine but be careful because it is a slippery slope.

My child made great grades despite the horribly toxic atmosphere at this school. This is all a direct reflection of Nick Brown. He is the WORST!

We have had nothing but issue after issue with bulling and no disciplining is ever done its like teachers turn and look the other way. We send our kids their hopping they will be protected and respected and that's not at all what happens instead our kids are made to believe that its ok to treat others bad and no punishment is ever needed kids need to learn RESPECT for one another ... I would never recommend this school to anyone.

After many years at great schools in Jenks, we were shocked at the mediocrity of the teaching staff and the "boys will be boys" culture lead by the attitude of the leadership who allowed hitting, kicking, body slamming and name calling - all of which occurred right under the nose of a PE teacher. Tutor your kids so they may actually continue to learn at this school and do NOT allow them to take PE!
