Jefferson is a top-notch elementary school with caring staff who are student centered!

In our experience this school is not fit nor has the resources for children on the Autism spectrum. Some children are punished for using coping skills that they have been taught. Staff members using racial slurs towards students are not held responsible and paraprofessionals cross boundaries and are not reprimanded however the children who struggle in social settings are. This school has 300+ students and resources are lacking.

The vintage facilities are clean and adequate; however, located near a busy intersection and in the midst of an aging neighborhood, the safety of the children is in the hands of school personnel, a number of whom are employed hourly by a third party contractor. Lack of air conditioning makes it difficult for students and teachers in the fall, spring, and summer. The total absence of male teachers causes concern. The school needs male teachers to protect students on the playground, push students on the swings, throw footballs, play kickball, rescue kids that get stuck in trees and on top of playground equipment, give high-fives in the hallway and the reassurance that only can come from a male role model in our society that’s plagued by broken families. There are a number of very professional teachers who are very caring and do a wonderful job with their professional responsibilities, but the district needs to make a conscious effort to avoid the appearance of nepotism in the selection of staff. The booster program does a wonderful job.

The teachers work very hard and care very much for the children. The parent booster group is amazing.

Jefferson Elementary School has more than 300 K-5 students and can average about 100 in an entire school year of Early Childhood Special Education. Parent involvement depends on the generation. Currently, the involvement is overwhelmingly supportive.
