I agree that Pegasus has evolved from a school for gifted children to a very normal K-8 school with the exact same range of abilities that you will find at any public school. The most noticeable differences between Pegasus and public school are: (1) Pegasus parents and students are more academically motivated. (2) A far higher percentage of Pegasus students receive outside tutoring. (3) Pegasus assigns considerably more grade level work.Repetition and practice is how you get students of average and below average abilities to perform at a level above their natural ability. In my opinion, Pegasus is a very good choice for students who will benefit from extra individual attention and extra grade level work; however, genuinely gifted students pick up concepts very quickly and do not benefit from repetition. For this reason, it is my opinion that Pegasus is not a good option for a genuinely gifted student.

We've had a range of experiences at Pegasus, from great to bad. Our current child has been at Pegasus since K and we've seen major changes in the culture and academic rigor over the years. Pegasus has gone from a school for the gifted, where each child is academically challenged based on their individual needs, to a school based on grade leveling where all the students are viewed the same. The school now seems most interested in raising money for new buildings rather than focusing on building a strong academic student body.

Our son is in kindergarden, and started last year as a preschooler. Many of his friends went to Harbor Day, and I am thrilled we chose Pegasus. The teachers have been very helpful during a difficult transition period for our son, and we have loved meeting some really great families.

The right preK-8th grade school in Orange County for my two children. Both kids are very happy at school. They have made good friends and developed strong bonds with their teachers. Small class sizes and specialty classes like science, library, Spanish, music, art, environmental studies, technology, and PE are on the school schedule, along with Language Arts and Math. Strong development in public speaking and the school work is not about quantity, but about quality. Project based learning more prevalent as children move up in grades. Faculty, staff and administration are there for parents to talk to and ask questions. Hard working and involved parent community. I believe the children are confidant about themselves and they like the friends they have there.

The Pegasus School has been the best decision we have made for our three children. The school is fully invested in nurturing bright, motivated, empathetic young people. The staff and teachers are passionate educators who find the strengths in each child through their diverse learning programs. The community is supportive and caring. Our children love going to school each day and we feel confident as parents that Pegasus is preparing our children for high school, college, and for life in the best way possible.

The Pegasus School has surpassed our expectations. Our first grader has thrived in this enriching environment and has developed a genuine passion for learning. The teachers, staff, and community are amazing and supportive. At Pegasus there is an emphasis on the overall child, not just academics. The students that I have encountered are skilled learners and have a clear sense of ethics. We are so proud to be a part of the Pegasus community and without hesitation highly recommend this school. An education of this caliber is priceless.

Our three children attend this school. We have found the Pegasus community to be diverse, progressive, and supportive. The faculty strives to be engaging and innovative and works hard to develop personal relationships with each student. The Middle School program is one which pushes the students to achieve, manage their schedule, and work directly with faculty and in groups in a safe and encouraging environment. The students experience freedom and responsibility while holding themselves to high academic standards. We have found the Pegasus third grade independence program to have provided a strong foundation for self-advocacy and responsibility for our children. The PreK program is one which allows the students to develop a love of learning, engage in social relationships, and feeds curiosities in a caring and creative environment.

Can't say enough great things about this school. We've been here for 5 years. The teachers and administrators are truly dedicated to the kids and they really do make learning fun. I've also been very impressed by the programs and activities the kids do academically as well as athleticly and socially. I'm especially impressed how they include economics and business into each year's curriculum. Such an important lifelement subject that not many schools cover. The curriculum is one year ahead of public schools and they move quickly but if you have a child who needs to be challenged and move at an accelerated pace, then you've found the right school. They talk about catering to the individual child and I've seen it. The teachers really do get to know each kid and they work with them in the way that works best for the child. Definitely worth your time to take a tour and see if Pegasus is right for your family.

It is true what they say about not knowing how good you had it until it's gone. Or in our case, until we are gone. We were a Pegasus family for 5 years. We moved out of state over a year ago. We knew our children were getting an excellent education but didn't realize how amazing it was until our children attended the top public schools in our new state. They are both above their grade level. At Pegasus, they did not only received an excellent academic education, but have also excelled outside of the classroom. Pegasus has taught them to be kind, confident and smart thinkers. Both of my children are now enrolled in the top private schools in our new state. This is all due to the years of education at Pegasus. The school is not only an exceptional academic environment but the community is what makes it special. We've made life long friends at Pegasus. We are also still in contact with all their former teachers. After having experienced both public (my older one also attended a top public kindergarten in OC) and other private schools, we realize Pegasus is truly a great school.

My son is an eighth grader and has attended Pegasus since Pre-K. He has received nothing but positive and nurturing feedback from the teachers and administrators. The teachers recognize the uniqueness in each child, accommodate him/her, and provide a wonderful curriculum that engages learning. Beyond academics, my son has developed essential skills that will help reach him be successful. It's best to visit the school, experience a day in the classrooms, and learn more about this warm community.

Considering leaving the school next year. Ideally, schools should just be about education. We have had some good teachers, some very average and one downright rude to students. Despite receiving specific feedback, she still remains a teacher here. Well, I guess issues like this will happen everywhere. My issue is I understand it's an independent school and does depend on fundraising but please stop using my child in the classroom as a messenger for fundraising. Don't resort to that level. It appalls me. Thanks

Pegasus is a fantastic school. No school can cater to their needs of all parents and all children, but this school and teachers go the extra mile. And parents doing extra supplementation is going to happen regardless of their school curriculum, it's a mechanism of capitolism. As for three cell phone tower, show me a medical study demonstrating there harmful effects of this tower, versus the cell phone tower used by each of the parents used to write these comments. The school may start slow academically but picks up in later grades, it's public speaking and debate programs are the tops. In the end it all depends on what you are looking for and if you have the means and driving then find that holy grail, we have been satisfied here. Good luck

We considered The Pegasus School this year but we were disappointed. The pre-k outdoor classroom is very nice and the importance of outdoor learning is awe-inspiring but the academics are mediocre and the school is lacking in the music and arts programs. The curriculum is intended to be for gifted learning. However, the school does not conduct true gifted testing to facilitate gifted learning at all. We have a gifted child but we would not say that Pegasus is for true gifted learning. This term has become misused and so misunderstood. We met with a few current parents to discuss the academic programs and what we learned was that these parents felt the need to provide their children with tutors and extra academic classes regularly after school because they are not satisfied with the academics Pegasus provides. We would not recommend this school for the gifted child and would advise that parents carefully consider the academic vision and current curriculum of Pegasus. It would be just as well to attend a public school, we have been far more satisfied with touring public Schools in Irvine and some in Newport Beach academically.

We joined Pegasus last year and have not been impressed. They have some good teachers but the parent community is not happy right now. The parents and the school are fighting about a cell tower that is on campus. We are thinking of leaving this year as the school has not been very responsive to the parents concerns and also we are very confused about the Board of the school as they have very small lower school representation and nobody knows and/or understand what they do. The academics are average and the school doesn't have a good music or art program.

We have been part of the Pegasus family over the last four years, and we are extremely happy. We currently have two children at the school. From day one, our kids have come home from school absolutely ecstatic about their classrooms, teachers, and curriculum. Our children are naturally quite shy, however they have blossomed with confidence over the years at Pegasus. All of their teachers have placed a huge emphasis on public speaking and memorization. Their abilities have soared! I can only imagine how great they will be when they are adults. I am also amazed by all that they learn in a given day. From Readers and Writers workshops to math, science, art & PE, they are exposed to so many different thoughts and processes of which they retain. The consistency and flow of the topics that are reinforced from classroom to classroom really do foster a great place for our children to learn. If you are considering Pegasus as an option for your child, I highly recommend the school.

My kids have been at Pegasus for the last few years and we have enjoyed every moment of being at the school. However, this year the energy and enthusiasm at the school are amazing. The new head of school brings his amazing experience and wealth of knowledge that is already impacting the school very positively.
