I generally enjoyed my time here, but I would suggest that the parent(s) give the child extra education, as the school material is generally too easy and your child might have difficulty in a good middle school.

Collectively, our 3 kids have tallied 13 years at this place. Great staff, international community, educated parents, & precious building (art-lined walls, bright red doors, beautiful old windows, sunlit rooms) Only one of our kids we removed early, after 3rd grade, as he needed a smaller classroom environment. Teachers are wonderful overall. Our youngest is hearing impaired-- rare at this school, not a lot of special needs kiddos- but the staff has gone out of their way to help her. Can't go wrong with Roberts.

Our 9 year old son has been here since K. He is challenged academically and as a result of our schools diversity has an incredible knowledgeable of cultures different than our own. This neighborhood school of ours is a gem. It is nurturing, provides a solid curriculum, has an administration that truly has the school's/children's best interest at heart and strong PTO.

Roberts offers a well rounded education. My daughter has grown tremendously. My son, who has learning differences, has been assisted by teachers & staff. The communication from the school is constant. Kids are encouraged to be themselves & to accept those who are different. While we do have families from the medical center who are only here for a couple of years...make no mistake- this is a neighborhood school with a very involved and supportive community.

Roberts is an excellent school. It is very rigorous academically; consistently scoring very high on all state and district assessments, but since it is an International Baccalaureate school, it teaches the students an inquiry-based approach that encourages them to take responsibility for their own learning. The school community is incredibly diverse - it is truly an international school, and the students learn so much from being together. There is a strong commitment to the fine arts. The majority of teachers are very effective, and any teacher who isn't is given support to improve, but removed if they do not. The teachers and administration are very receptive to questions and requests for information. The very active PTO supports the school though fundraising and volunteering, and is open to all parents, regardless of how much a parent has to give.Roberts is a public school, and so has the same challenges faced by many public schools in a large urban district: uncertain funding, larger class sizes then private schools, a state and district focus on standardized tests. However, at the building level, there is excellent teaching and learning going on at Roberts on a daily basis. Roberts educates the whole child to be an informed, inquiring, and inspired citizen of the world.

My kids have been at Roberts for 4 years and I am very happy with our experience at the school. The teachers are excellent at instruction and in keeping parents informed about what's going on in the classroom. The principal is a strong advocate for the school at the district level and she is a great communicator. She is very effective, she shows up at every single event and is really dedicated to the school. The PTO has a great group of dedicated volunteers and is able to really help out and make a difference at the school. The IB program takes the standard public school curriculum up a huge notch and the fine arts programs (music, dance, art, musical productions in 3rd - 5th grades) are a huge bonus.

We came rushing over to Roberts after reading all of the amazing five-star reviews about the school. We were warned during our home search that the school was simply not as good as it appeared "on paper." I wish we had listened! This is a great school if you are in the US for a couple of years from overseas and work in the med center. Your kids will learn English, make a few international friends and enjoy life while coasting academically. Not a bad deal--unless of course you actually care about the quality of education. If you do, then give the one star reviews another look. They are quite accurate.

Our child has been at Roberts from Kindergarten through 5th grade, and we couldn't be more satisfied with the outstanding education she's received. The communication from teachers each year was excellent; the principal is committed to maintaining and improving the high level of student academic achievement (despite budget cuts from the Texas legislature); the parent community is diverse and supportive of one another; and the fine arts programs are a delight and thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Roberts' is everything a neighborhood school should be.

Our children have been at Roberts Elementary collectively for over eight years now and both have had very good experiences there. We especially appreciate the IB program and the diversity. The principal works tirelessly to keep the standards high, while keeping in mind the safety and overall well being of the children and the staff. This is our last year there and we will miss it tremendously.

We've been at Roberts for many years now and have children in several grades. We have been very happy with the instruction at Roberts and the teachers. The Principal has managed cuts to funding and changing HISD policies very well, and she is very clear and focused on the IB/Fine Arts mission of the school. My children have friends whose families come from all over the world, and that diversity at Roberts is one of its strengths. I have found the teachers to be very approachable. I'm not sure how a parent made it through the year without talking to the teachers - there are several times for conferences, both formal and informal. As a parent, you've got be proactive about your child's education. Overall, we've been very pleased with the school. All the surrounding schools are great, but we prefer the IB program at Roberts above all!

I also wonder how this school gets a 10. 3rd grade was terrible for my child. Inexperienced, bad teacher and overcrowded classroom. Child went backwards. No communication from school or teacher about child's needs. Not sure what is being taught. Only time she was taught was for standardized testing.

I will rate in minus. Poor Management. Very Very arrogant front office staff and teachers too.I wonder how it gets a 10 out of 10 rating. No response from principal for parents emails.I do not recommend this school. I recommend Mark Twain and I rate 10 out of 10 to that school. They are very friendly natured staff, kind teachers. Every one respect parents time.

We have been a Roberts family for 7 years - 5 years with an older child and younger one is in 4th grade. Overall Roberts is a good fine arts magnet and very good IB program. The diversity of kids and proximity to medical center/Rice University make it a school attended by kids from highly educated families. In junior years the kid stays largely with the classroom teacher and it is the luck of the draw which teacher you get. We have had some excellent years - 4th & 2nd grades for both my kids were outstanding due to their teachers - some okay and some not-so-good teachers. The Art teacher is outstanding. Music is good. The loss of a spanish teacher has been a negative factor for us in recent years. The increasing use of technology to replace live teach-to-student interaction is a negative trend in my view. Still, it is a good school.

My daughter is in her second year with Roberts and she could not be happier. Academically we are pleased, the friends she made are wonderful and the teachers so far have all been excellent. Administration is on top of everything. Let's hope the issue of the state-wide vanishing magnet program will have little impact on the quality of eduction at Roberts.
