This a horrible School and environment. Mr. Contreras is good at talking and supposedly he listens to you as a parent but he does nothing. My nephew was such a happy kid but Labay turn out to be a nightmare in his life and our life as a family. He was bullied from 6 to 7th grade. 4 kids were calling him horrible names, punch him and threat him. 4 or 5 fights every week. When I went to speak to MR. CONTRERAS about those bullies he just said oh I’m sorry but I can’t talk about other kids but yes he talk about our kid. They didn’t took their time to do a research or at least to check the video cameras to see what was going on. The teachers don’t pay attention what is going on in their classroom. Now thanks to those people my nephew has to take therapy to handle what he went through. If you are going to serve your kid at Labay be aware, be supportive, loving and most important have communication and be involved as much as possible

Terrible school unless you want your kids to turn out a hoodlum. A LOT of bullying at this school. This is not a safe learning environment. Students should not be stressed to be around in certain areas or around certain GROUPS. I’m going to say it again, certain groups, make other students feel unsafe. This carries on through different grade levels from 6-8th grade to even high school and family, colleagues or even peers forming these cliques. What’s worst is the Principal Contreras is very unprofessional and unsympathetic. Its only goal in the principal position is to collect a check. This Principal Contreras does not care about the students’ learning experience, providing a safe environment, and the students’ quality of life. All over snapchat are young kids engaging in illegal activities, especially in the bathrooms. Principal Contreras does not take accountability for terrible management at this school.

This school was wild. There was a fight almost every week. The staff was unhelpful and had absolutely no empathy for the students. (In fact, they banned phone usage after I graduated in 2022.) The counselors were useless. Going to Labay made my school experience feel like a waste of time. I recommend choosing a different school to attend.

This school is OK there is a lot of fights and there are a lot of people who get suspended for good and bad reasons. The teachers some are really good and make the education fun some just don't care. The last thing is that there is a lot of bullies and kids who get made fun of and really judged when it doesn't even matter.

Good teachers. Bad staffs. Especially the old attendance officer very rude and unkind. The young one is nice.

It's not too bad but kids can get away with bad stuff pretty easily and with the stuff that doesn't really matter they can crack down on you hard. They once had a stupid rule that if you touch anyone for any reason you would get suspended. Immediately after that announcement everyone started high-fiving each other and saying "I'm going to get suspended!" The teachers really didn't care I didn't think.

My son attends Labay , he moved to this school earlier this year from a neighboring school .The teachers are very helpful and always email me back every time I email. The teachers even realized my son was needed to be in the gifted program and reached out to me. I did have an issue with one of the teachers who treated a brunch of kids badly and my son called me and I emailed the principal on the issue and I got a response immediately and an email from the teacher in question with an explanation and an apology .Parents need to be accountable for their kids behave and also some of the parents need to check their behave around our kids. From the language to dressing

I attended labay in 6th and 7th so (last year) i liked most of my teachers who helped me with after school tutorials when I needed help with something I didn't understand , in my opinion this is really good school even though it doesn't have the best "reputation" . Anyways this was a good experience made lots of friends who I do miss alot since I moved for 8th grade year .

I have two kids that have attended Labay. O am an active parent who visits the school at least twice a montg. One is still there and the other is now in highschool. I CAN'T wait until my nightmare is over! The principle is only social with the kids she considers "good". She walks around with her arms folded and usually only speaks to kids if is reprimandin them. There are only a few teachers who truly have the kids best interest in mind. You always have to call or reach out to them. It's clear that most if them are only there for the paycheck. They are rude to the students and the parents. The BEST thing that happened at Labay is when they promoted one of the staff members to 8th grade assistant principal. This year he is the 7th grade assistant principal. I hope he becomes the Head principle, because the current one is just not a good fit.

ok. the staff is getting worse in my opinion, since the principal changed 4 years ago and the 8th grade assistant principal left and a bunch of teachers left. the kids are pretty bad, but you can stay out of bullying easily if your mind is in the right direction. There haven't been many fights this year. I've never been bullied, and i'm not 'popular' or 'ghetto'. I make good grades and make good friends, so it's all ok. God has blessed me with safety, for sure.

Labay is a good school. I am very involved with my child's education & am up at the school often as a volunteer -- I witness first-hand. There was bullying in 2011 & 2012, but the principal and teachers have done a great job in curbing with zero tolerence policy both in school & social media. In fact, they go above and beyond by addressing cyber-bullying and make sure kids are held accountable (at least as far as school is concerned) -- something their parents should be doing -- Kudos to them! There are handful of amazing teachers there, but I will admit i am often shocked when I hear how some of the teachers treat the kids with a level of hostility & inpatience. I do agree that there is a greater focus on teaching kids in on-level classes to pass the standardized tests, but level 1 classes do a great job in splitting their time between teaching, test prep (standardized) and independent classwork. I do wish that they had more time & patience in addressing specific issues and question with the kids. Also love the districts online home access website where I can track my child's daily grades. Overall, excellent & diverse school.

I believe the school is not getting a fair shake. My daughter is in 7th grade at Labay. The teachers and administrators are great! They are caring and make learning fun. They challenge the students and also provide assistance when needed. The teachers keep us informed weekly through newsletters. The band teachers are outstanding! We are very pleased with the school. Being a teacher myself, I am aware that there are children who have difficulty following directions and behaving; it's everywhere and unfortunately many of those children misbehave in front of their own parents. Good parenting is the issue. Nevertheless, our daughter has not experienced anything adverse at Labay. It is a good school!

I had one child go to Labay, but felt he was short-changed on his education, so I have my other children attending a different middle school in the district. I have worked at Labay as a substitute and saw the difference in the school 4 years ago and now. The current principal came to Labay 4 years ago. I have heard her say that she wants her best teachers reaching the kids who struggle to pass STARR so test scores will go up at her school. She said, 'The smart kids can teach themselves.' That's why she builds the schedule so that all the new teachers have Level 1 classes, and the experienced t teachers in On-level. The experienced teachers are leaving as fast as they can. She also only hires very young teachers . Sometimes that turns out well, but about 75 percent of them think it is college-year5 and 6. That is why I can count on a substitute assignment there every day.

Labay is a horrible school the staff is awful and most of them need to retire. The staff has no respect for the students and they talk to them anyway they want to regardless if they are good students or not. I can't wait for my child to leave this school it is a mess.

I went to Labay in '96,'97, and '98. I don't know how this school has changed so drastically. I believe the parents need to be more accountable for their children. Faculty is awesome here and I would send my kids to Labay.

Labay Middle School is horrible and has been nothing but a complete nightmare for my 6th grade student. I agree with what others have said on here. My son has been kicked, pushed, hit, choked and ridiculed by other students. Especially two kids in particular. I've had meetings with the Principal and spoken with teachers and nothing is ever done. They talk a good talk but nothing is ever done to stop the issues. I am trying my hardest to move my child to another middle school please tell me how to get this done. I've tried just about everything and I'm banging my head up against the wall. I'm so frustrated and hurt so badly for my child and other students that I know are experiencing these same issues! I would be extremely angry if my child were bullying another student to where they didn't even want to attend school. The sickening thing is that we live within walking distance to a better middle school, instead I must drive him to and from school because the bus ride is another story within itself! Please help me move my child to a better school. I'm here to help you as well! I'm ready to march in front of this school I'm so tired of it!!!
