Waiakea High School touts itself on being academically driven and a great place to learn. Personally, I feel that it's anything but that. With the larger class sizes and limited amount of resources available, there are one too many children that fall in between the cracks. Aside from that, the amount of violence and fights that break out in this school is astounding. As a parent of multiple children who have attended and who are attending this school - I would highly recommend seeking a better environment for your child(ren) to learn.

The school has done a great job of transitioning my freshman student. Teachers gave been very responsive and caring. Very happy with the school.

This school has definitely improved within the last few years. I notice some say that teachers would fail you if your were disliked, although I can’t completely disagree, the teachers would just give you a harder time but not fail. I faced very few bad experiences with teachers but based on what I heard from others, my recommendation would be to take a higher level classes to avoid these “bad” teachers. It may be intimidating but the courses material taught in honors is the same in regular, it may be taught faster and more in-depth, but you tend to get better teachers. Another thing while attending, if you participate with school activities and club, I believe you would have a better high school experience.

If the teacher didn't like you, you weren't going to pass. Teachers would talk to certain students like they weren't even human or they were a complete waste of space. Teachers only wanted to deal with certain students.

I am very discouraged about this school. If the teachers decide that they do not like a student then they won't pass the student. Even if the student is really smart. Not a good way to go about teaching.

I graduated very well-prepared for college at a selective liberal arts college on the mainland. The teachers were very supportive and dedicated. Downside - lots of slackers and druggies, and some major cliques. But once you find your groove/niche, it's easy to focus on that and stay away from that nonsense.

2 years for my younger granddaughter in this school and we pulled her out due to the horrible teachers at this school. While there are few teachers that do good, if your child gets stuck with a bad teacher for a certain course, it is quite difficult to get them with a good teacher. The counselors, or at least one that I have dealt with, seems to have little interest in the students. Most schools on the island are not so great, so we settled on online school which is a much better choice than any public school here. The teachers don't teach in a way that the students can understand and don't try to help you understand.
