A couple of my children attended. We were very happy for a couple years. It’s very sad actually, because our kids had wonderful teachers there, and made great friends. My review would have been very different a few years ago.Administration has deteriorated and has lost sight of what’s important in life and learning. Bullying not properly addressed. No security whatsoever, anymore. Your child is not allowed to go to the school bathroom alone, bc people off the street have gotten into them during the school day. One student walked away from school this year and was missing for hours. The school’s response was an email telling us the children are safe at school, with zero plan to address what happened that day. Academically not actually better than the nearby public schools in Hilo, and particularly as the children get older, public schools offer so much more, both academically and for sports and clubs. They won’t accept students with learning needs. Almost zero after school activities for kids. No music. At this point, feels like paying way too much money to hear all news, changes in school schedule, policy changes, etc. through the grapevine and students, instead of directly from the actual administration. In our time, they’ve changed a vacation day to a school day shortly before, made massive policy changes after all student contracts are signed, both without a real explanation or communication from actual principle. Made themselves far more inflexible than the local public schools. Most importantly, they never ask for parent feedback on policies, academics, student happiness, etc. Your child is better off at a school that communicates well and has a caring administration.

I am a student at St. Joseph School and I do not like it very much, But I think it is better than any public schools here. The public schools are known for bad things and I find that St. Joseph has none of that. When I went to elementary it was very religious. Now that I am in the high school it is not so religious but I find that the academics are not as good as they were in elementary. Also it says there are 193 students but now there are only 90. I think this school could use better sports something new. I know I will be switching schools soon. (hopefully..)
