Vilma Sandoval, the principal, creates a toxic and hostile environment at Thompson Elementary for teachers, staff, parents and students. My child has attended for a few years now and we have had nothing but issues. Her slogan is, "This is MY school." My child has a dual diagnosis and I informed the principal of this before my child began attending. It wasn't until I filed a formal complaint (after years of misconduct) that my child received the evaluations and resources that should have been offered when she started at Thompson. I have been made to feel unwelcome on campus from day one. Many other parents have the same complaint and have filed grievances yet the district backs the principal. The feeling on campus is cold. I have offered up solutions for parental engagement, restarting the PTO, activities, parent participation in class and on field trips with no response or they are met with resistance. Staff, parents and students suffer at the hands of Ms. Sandoval. Do your research and speak with other parents prior to sending your child to this school and know your rights. Sandoval puts on a good act but I promise the school culture and environment is not a positive one that children deserve and you will be advocating for your child more than you should. Save your child and your sanity - find another school.

I was alumni here. So many good memories, I am shocked and dismayed at how things have gone for my own children. They completely ignored my daughters need for an IEP. She has autism and glaucoma... so if autism wasn't enough her going blind should have qualified her. Then my child was bullied severely. I said something. It was blown off. 4 times in one week she called from the nurse when she was injured yet again. My other child was so afraid of the bathrooms... she ended up with this terrible ulcerated rash because she wet herself in class everyday. She couldn't make herself use the bathroom there. It was severe. At age 6 she showers herself, I was unaware of the problem. I immediately took her to a hospital. I also called a social worker. To make matters worse this year they taught her terrifying music. The poor dear won't walk through the house alone now. This is ridiculous. Why couldn't she just learn reading or writing or math...? The kids also picked up pin worms here. So be prepared for that! Way worse than headlice! The only thing I can say positive is the teachers do care. We had some really special ones. And the after school program is fantastic. If not for these things I would have pulled my kids out way before this

This is our 4th year at Thompson and the school is continuing to improve and motivate the children to make goals. Thompson is now a NEU school and the children are all part of universities. They visit college campuses and earn certificates using the Accelerated Reading Program. The special day classes are lead by caring teachers who push my son to meet his IEP goals. My other child who is in general classes is also pushed to excel. There are lots of groups and activities including music and drama. I am thankful for Thompson.

Thompson provides a friendly environment where students can make everlasting impressions and memorable friendships. Also, students can build one on one relationships with the awesome teachers there (I've experienced this myself!). Along with the family oriented staff, there are many fun activities available after school...just ask! Such as, CAPS (where they even go on field trips sometimes and they provide snacks), Drama Club (my personal favorite), Chess Club (sometimes they play with HUGE chess pieces; which is awesome), and this only naming a few!!!!! If you are deciding on a new school, Thompson will be a choice that comes with NO regrets. GO THOMPSON TIGERS-AND SHOUT OUT TO ALL MY PAST TEACHERS WHO WERE GREAT: Mr.Nellany, Mrs.Antillion, Ms.Neuman, Ms.Beimborn, Ms.Crain

Thompson has been the best for my children we came from a school were the staff did not care to work with the Parents. I have worked well with every teacher and staff member they listen and try there best to accommodate. The PTO goes above the top to do family oriented activities and has the best interest of the students in mind.
