I am a current student of this school (8th grade) and the things that go on here are wild. There are constant fights happening at lunch, and the cops were called once because of one. Not to mention the homophobia, racism, and bullying that goes on here. Everyone will be rude and try to find a way to bully you or make fun of you for something. I've been called names, and had my phone stolen once (I got it back thankfully.) I would not recommend this school at all unless you want to be bullied or made fun of. Some of the teenage girls in my class are putting on makeup while the teacher is in the middle of teaching, and the teacher does nothing about it. Some of the teachers are really nice and understanding about certain things while others are not. Let's say you have a passion or something you really like to talk about--not anymore! Unless you want to be bullied by the boys or girls in your class and all around you! The school will also do nothing about your kid being bullied, you can try leaving voicemails or calling and they say "they'll do something about it." They don't. The only way they can do "something" is if your student speaks up to the counselor and knows the bully's name and the bully gets sent a note home. Though, the bully could easily check the mailbox, take out the letter, and throw away the letter. Please do not go to this school for your own risk.

This school can be a challenging environment due to issues like racism, homophobia, and bullying, which students, including myself, have unfortunately had to confront. Regrettably, it seems that the staff's response to bullying is inadequate. I recall an incident where a student not only took my lunch but also physically confronted me. Additionally, there was a close call when a student attempted to steal my phone. While there are a few genuinely caring teachers, I hesitate to recommend this school as it falls short of creating a safe and inclusive educational atmosphere.

As a guardian my daughter has been bullied multiple times at this horrendous school. Back to school night I seen the bathrooms and they were in horrible condition. Thinking of how my daughter would have to be there made me feel horrible. My daughter is the target of a bully, who intimidates her with physical harm and steals her lunch.Bullying takes a toll on my child's mental health, causing her grades to slip and her once outgoing personality to fade away. Eventually, a group of students who have also been bullied by the other child confronted him and stood up for themselves and their classmates. They all unfortunately got suspended though they didn't come after him roughly the principal said it wasn't right. I had called the office many times before this and they never answered no matter how many voicemails I left.I would never recommend this school for your child unless you want to see them go through a sorrowful middle school experience.

I've had 4 of my children attend HJH and they did very well. Three of them played on the school sports teams. They had awesome coaches. I have to also give praise to some of the teachers. One of them saw the potential in my daughter and moved her into the AVID program. While another teacher saw that one my boy's was struggling in a subject and reached out to me. She helped my so so much and to this day, she is still his favorite teacher.
