I graduated from NSH in 2010 and it was one of the best decisions in my educational career. My classes at the public high school were not challenging enough, and I was socially struggling. Choosing NSH - I graduated HS with 1/2 of my college degree, and went on to get an Ivy League education, and have continued to receive many professional accomplishments (Top 50 Women in Tech 2023 and 2024). I truly believe that NHS was a foundational decision and contributor in my future success.

Nevada State High School is the only school in NV that offers free college courses to juniors and seniors, giving them a chance to earn their associates degree by the time they graduate. The school offers strong a strong internal support system, ensuring a high graduation rate and college-readiness rate. (98% graduation rate). They accept all students who meet minimum credit requirements.

NSHS offers a real world college experience! It is a great opportunity for kids to get free college. Our family saved thousands overall. The classes taken are based on the students choice of their college degree plan, example a business degree. All of their classes would be based on obtaining their degree, after the basic requirements are met. The school offers support for the kids when starting these classes. Important things to remember are parents still need to be parents. Parents should be inquisitive & ask questions. They should get on the phone & call the school if they are having difficulties or challenges. Students always need to regulate their time. We did not pay for any classes. But if a student fails a class yes, the parent will need to reimburse the school. So the key is to stay on top of studies. If these things are done, I am sure you too will have a great experience with this school. The school also offers many fun and wonderful social events for the students. My son graduated from NSHS & insisted his sister had to go there too.. I highly recommend Nevada State High School.

For the most part, NSHS has been a great experience so far as I'm about to finish my junior year. NSHS and their staff has supported me in many different ways. I enrolled into this school not knowing what I would major in college, I didn't even know a single bit about college in general. I don't think any other High School in the Vegas valley can get a student college and career ready as much as NSHS. Swapping the traditional tedious high school routine with a first hand experience in a real college setting is a great experience and a different take in high school education. NSHS can be a bit unorganized at times, but gets better over time.

Nevada State High School is a college-based charter school that prepares high school students for the transition to college. The opportunity to get ahead in college is not something to pass up. NSHS does a great job of assisting students to become college ready and make the transition to adulthood much easier. NSHS pays college fees (excluding textbooks, which can be waivered in some circumstances) which allows low-income students a chance at getting ahead too.I am currently a junior at Nevada State and this is my first semester here. The initial enrollment process can be a bit confusing and the transition from traditional high school into this program can be challenging. NSHS does not do a great job organization-wise but it's getting better as time goes on. Once you get in routine it becomes much easier to complete work and understand the overall flow of things. I spend way less time completing coursework because I have the ability to work on my own time!

This school is awesome! The office staff is very helpful. They answer every question I ask. They are very kind to me and my family and always make adjustments due to my schedule. They are very understanding and I recommend this school to everyone who wants a school that’s organized and welcoming!

There is no better place for high school students in Nevada to learn about college. Nevada State High School transitions 11th and 12th grade high school students to college personally, academically, and socially through a real college experience.

Nevada State High School is a great charter school that provides students with the chance to complete college classes for free! I love the opportunities given from this school. Most of the curriculum is independent based. However, there are resources and staff available to help, and it helps students prepare for their future college experiences. This is a school that all juniors and seniors shouldn't ignore!

My biggest frustration is their platform, preferred communication channel, and the school's charter (or philosphy).About the platform (Moodle) - The platform was poorly implemented! It is difficult - involving searches and multiple clicks and trail and error - to tie a due date to an assignment. Assignments are also difficult to track because some only appear after some unknown or poorly communicated timeframe passes. The platform is VERY difficult to understand; it is incoherent. And the staff refer to components - such as "courtesy date card" or "date card" - that have absolutely no meaning in the platform. (I actually went so far as to read through the administrator's guide for Moodle with the hope of finding these elusive "date cards," to no avail.About communication - This school chooses to communicate through a help desk system (Mojo). Their reasoning for this is that the help desk system keeps everything in one place. I disagree. First, using a help desk system to facilitate communications results in one-way dialogues where the school always has the last word. Second, the school insists that we upload documents containing sensitive student information, which I've been reluctant to do because I'm not convinced that the school has considered the privacy and security risks in doing this. The platform provider clearly indicates on their website that they allow third parties access to data within their platform and that raises a HUGE RED FLAG for me! About the charter (philosophy) - As was mentioned in another review of this school on GreatSchools.org, the school is definitely not designed to be cost effective for parents. The philosophy of the school comes across as capitalistic [i.e. money-centered] and bureaucratic. When we arrived at NSHS, my student had just four credits remaining to complete high school. NSHS's bureaucratic and poorly conceived concept of being a "real college" experience punished my student for being ahead, and created additional burdens that don't exist anywhere else. Example: Students enrolled at this school are REQUIRED to do 20 hours of volunteer work and earn 10 social points [which is also very similar to volunteer work] to pass. Failing to do so means your student will *not* be allowed to graduate. And if your student earns all HS credits, the school will not grant a diploma! To sum: NSHS's charter was poorly conceived and their platform was poorly implemented.

I have viewed the experience as learning to crawl, then walk, and graduate with a headstart and an idea of how to run instead of just graduating with the basics of how to crawl and be expected to run. The school cultivates the students thought process for important things like where they want to go, student debt, and scholarships. I highly recommend Nevada State High School if your student is serious about school and will pass classes; otherwise you will be paying for classes yourself and will be counterproductive.

Absolutely horrible hard to navigate system. System mostly set up for them to make money and get more and more students. Unreachable staff. You owe them money for failed classes and then they encourage students to take classes they may fail or even repeat classes they have failed so you get to pay twice.

Going to this school takes a lot of responsibility and motivation. You're attending college classes, so they expect you to act as an adult. You have to be willing to be mature and cooperate with others. At the end of the day, it gave me a really unique opportunity that allowed me to actually experience college in high school.

There's more involvement required on the parent's and student's end with the administration, yeah, but honestly I can't compare that with the things you can achieve here. My gpa went from 3.7 to 4.5, scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT and SAT, and graduated with an associate's degree before getting my high school diploma. Worth it? Yep. Better than taking AP classes and stressing over exams? Totally.

The only good thing about this school is free college but it's not worth the pain of dealing with the administration who honestly, shouldn't be allowed to work with kids. Administrators rely on the college for instruction, but try to motivate (abuse) kids into behaving and making good grades so the school looks good. It's a constant barrage of threats. The high school classes that are required, (and yes, there are some required that they won't tell you about until you've already committed) are full of busy work.As good as this school is in theory, I would not recommend it. My child came to NSHS as a senior, and is graduating. If she was a junior, she would not be returning next year. It's been too frustrating for both of us.

This school has a U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights complaint with 6 charges against the school for discrimination and retaliation. This school doesn't care about the health and safety of its students they will not abide by state or federal laws. Do not send you children to this school. Great concept but the Principal and Administrator should not be in charge of children!

This school seems great. Remember nothing is free! The price to attend this school, and have them pay for your college classes, is their "tough love" policy which will only have you and your student questioning your sanity! Over the two years my child attended there were CONSTANT papers missing on their end, guessing games, and total lack of organization and clear roles of staff members. They love to shuffle responsibility to avoid answering what should be a simple question. Got so bad we started printing every response to collect a paper trail of anything we needed. Tough love does not mean giving a person the run around, losing important documents on a regular basis, failing to upload changed information in their system MULTIPLE times only to have you feel like an idiot. They need an overhaul and a clear/followed structure. Say what you mean - mean what you say!!!!!!

Nevada State High School is an opportunity. Nevada is the second lowest state in the whole nation on the regards of education. The public schools here have lowered their educational standards to allow all students graduate. The quality of education within Nevada has dwindled to a point of true inferiority. Nevada State High School is an opportunity to escape this failed educational system. Nevada State High School allows for a student to reach out of the boundaries of public education and achieve the greatest form of learning possible. Students are tested for their capabilities and understanding of all areas of education and are placed in classes accordingly within college. I guarantee that all bad reviews of this school delve from irresponsibility. Not all students are prepared for this boundary change and increase in responsibility. It is important to remember that if you attend this school there will be difficulties. I personally make a promise to any future students, that as long as you put effort and work into your associations with this school, you will achieve great things.
