    This is the best school I’ve ever seen. The staff, principal, counselor involvement, student engagement, communication with parents, dual language, diversity. I see the low scores due to the low income families and I don’t agree with those ratings. Schools should not be judged based on the family financial background. Smithland teachers cares about the students and a actively engage with the students. The counselors are available for any emotional support needed. My children look forward to going to school and love their teachers. Janice Churchill is well loved as the principal. The staff’s demeanor and positive attitude is a reflection of her leadership. Smithland is a newer school in Harrisonburg but it is an exceptional model of what elementary schools should be.
