I don't know why this school has a low rating. It's one of the best options during the pandemic. The curriculum is all interactive (they have a decade of experience with online learning). While the pre-loaded learning experience might not be for everyone, the teachers are great and also interact with the children through Zoom. The workload isn't overwhelming, which is great if you are working at home at the same time that you're trying to oversee your children's learning.I have two children in the school, and both of their teachers are caring and on top of things. I really think the administration cares and is doing their best to try to forge a sense of community with the children and parents during an isolating and challenging time. I recommend MEWA's approach, especially during the time of the pandemic.

My daughter returned to school from a regular classroom after open-heart surgery and a long complicated recovery. She, like may other students in the GBSD has been suffering from what I call The Lake Woebegone Phenomena , you know, the radio host Garrision Keilor's description of his home town where all the students are : "above average" . Lets face it: MEWA is serving a large population of extremely diverse students for whom the public schools have completely failed, or worse, dumped because they have health related issues and low test scores. On the whole I must say that MEWA Staff has been very responsive to my requests and concerns. These include the topics of Special Education, modified work and related concepts that are all now considered "taboo" to bring up in some schools. It is not perfect. Its not a "brick and mortar" school with all the extras, busses, and staff. They are open to adapting to meet student needs. Keep in mind they are a new school. They also have a lot of options for higher level students. I therefore, gave the school a five instead of a four. The staff deserve credit for fixing pre-existing problems. Nice location and building also.
