It has been an excellent school experience. Very impressed with how caring and helpful the teachers are for the students! Very strong academics and great athletic programs too.

I am torn. On one hand I do think Riverside offers many opportunities, but maybe these are the entire district, not Riverside specific. The sports seem well organized, spirit weeks are participated in by different types of students, the principal does detailed recordings weekly with all the upcoming events. You are notified of all metal detectors, suspicious activities, anything concerning. I do think there are a decent variety of class choices. My issue is that the teachers do all recommendations for the next classes. My daughter gets an A in bio honors, yet is told to go to Chem advanced which gives no extra weight (honors AP do). I see no reason why children getting 95+ in a class are told honors is too hard. From college perspective B in honors is better than A in regular courses. Their college prep is actually what my previous school would consider remedial. The school is competitive no doubt as the demographics show a high percentages of ethnicities who are known to do well in school, and can’t deny they do. But I question this idea to not allow anyone getting As to go into an honor class. And the issue is compounded because that very first class you take in 8th grade will forever love you in non honors courses. You can’t take honors this or that because you only took college prep this or that. Even though you got a 98 in it. So basically Riverside admits their college prep is a joke and you are labeled from 8th grade because of it. I say all this coming from another state that ranks second for education. And while at my children's former school, I disliked many things, the school itself did not hold the students back like riverside does. There is no room for improvement, who you are in seventh, even sixth will dictate your entire schedule all of high school. Kids getting over 1200 on their SATs shouldnt be told they can’t take honors. I have friends whose children are getting A in Biology Honors in 9th grade be told they can’t take Chemistry Honors in 10th grade because they got a 90 in Algebra 1 Honors in 8th grade. How does this make sense. And how does this school encourage anyone to be the best they can. It’s very disappointing because teachers are fine, the curriculum is fine, the school and activities are nice. There isn’t anything wrong other than the guidance and teachers keeping children from raising their GPAs to compete with others for college and scholarships.

I may still be a current student, but so far my experience here hasn't been the best. I struggle with FnD and get bullied for it quite frequently. I get bullied on the regular, stand out like a sore thumb, and overall, the way things are organized is confusing. Several of the teachers are disrespectful to me because of my differences. Academic wise, it is a good school. Social and bullying wise, not so much.

This is an excellent school with a tradition of excellence and higher achievement. The teachers are top-notch and motivate their students to grow and succeed. Both of my children attended this school.

First off, I am special permission to this school because I was attracted to the German program, marching band, and strong academics over my zoned school Jl Mann. Yes there will always be downsides to every highschool experience. However despite the number of negative reviews, I believe that Riverside High School is a great school to send your children to. Yes, high school has its fair share of cliques, drugs, fights, etc. For the most part a school is defined by its teachers and faculty. There are good and lesser teachers at every school, including this one. It's not a matter of teachers "don't teach," it is a matter of ineffective or different teaching styles. If a student says a teacher doesn't teach, he should first look within himself to see what he can modify or improve, then seek out help! My experience has proved that the guidance office is phenomenal, many of my teachers have challenged my perspective and caused me to think. I have worked harder than I ever have before academically here, but am all the better for it. The AP and Honors classes are tough but rewarding. Mr. Crowley while not too involved with the students directly does a fantastic administrative job. This school has a great variety of clubs, athletics, and strong teachers. If I had to choose a high school again, I would hands down return to Riverside!

This used to be an amazing school. No more. Teachers are uncaring. Guidance office is amazing (excluding freshman counselor) but they don't teach. Uncaring principal. Spoiled "elite" students. Heavy drug use by students.

Riverside in the mid 2000s was the academic superpower of Greenville County. However, that title has been handed over to the Generals at Wade Hampton. At this point, Riverside is slipping academically, and that was essentially the only thing going for them. Facilities are bland and extremely institutional, spirit is mediocre compared to that of other area high schools, and students are very cliquey. Drugs are also a prevalent issue at RHS. If you want athletics, go to Greer. If you want a community, go to Eastside. For academics, go to Wade Hampton. Riverside is second rate in these areas to local schools.

School looks great on paper but if you are looking at moving to the area you might want to consider other schools. The atmosphere at the school is not welcoming.

Moving to Greer, SC? Stay away from Riverside High School. Counselors & athletic coaches are pretty good, good band program but teachers are hugely disappointing and don't care about their students. School is clickish. Students not accepting of new students at all. Lack of school spirit and team atmosphere. Choose a different school. No reviews since 2012 until recently and there's a reason why the reviews are poor. Spent 1 year at Riverside and moved to a different Greenville County High School.

New to SC, new to Greer, new to Greenville county, relocated from a very diverse Atlanta, GA. First two days of school for a sophomore and senior. Faculty and staff have been very informative and helpful. Students, well, it's High School, but....diverse it's not and it shows. Our children are coming from Gifted/High Achiever Programs. Oh, and our children are White, just not the mainstream, they are artistic, creative, musically inclined, don't play golf or lacrosse, look different than most. I fully realize it's very early, but to a teenager, it's now and forever. I'll post again related to what they take away, education, preparation for college. Very concerned about my choice to relocate our family..
