Horrible experience. Every couple years there is a shooting either right off campus or in the neighborhood next to the campus. Fights all the time, the security frequently pepper sprays and tazes students who cause problems, and you will get caught up in it because of how crowded everything is, and how admin corrals everyone on one area during lunch hours. They do not treat students as human beings

I am a graduate of JH Rose and both of my daughters also graduated from there in the last few years. Rose is a very challenging school that has way more AP courses than any other high school in Pitt County. The school also is one of 30 something schools public or private in all of North Carolina that is an AP Capstone school. Rose received this qualification because of the amount of students who receive very high scores on their AP exams. Each year over 6 million dollars is offered in college scholarships and students go to colleges all over the country including many Ivy League schools. Many of the teachers who teach these courses have their Masters degrees and know how to teach the courses correctly. Rose has a great sports program and great programs in the arts. The only Honors Orchestra program in Pitt County is at Rose and the band has won many state awards. The theatre program along with a local news channel won an Emmy for a commercial they collaborated in. The Mock Trial program and Robotics program have both won state and national awards. I could go on and on with the awards won by groups of students and individual students at this school. There are a large number of students attending Rose from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and the school has put several programs into place to mentor these students and it is making a difference.

I'm a parent with a senior at Rose right now. I can say with 100% certainty that he is supported and challenged in his education. He came home just last night sharing excitement about his business teacher offering to help my student shape his entrepreneurial ideas. He and his teacher plan to meet regularly during Smart Block to discuss his business plans and options for college. Smart Block is free time available to students to visit with teachers, do school work, visit the library, take care of make-up tests, etc. It's time built into the day that gives students the opportunity to make decisions regarding time management - VERY important for students to learn now. This school is diverse, offers a lot of extracurricular activities, sports, special programs, etc. We have had a wonderful experience here.

Rose High School has an excellent Honors/AP program. It was a exceptional high school experience for my two kids. One now has an M.D. and the other a Masters.

Huge school. They take security and the safety of the students seriously. But where are the test scores?

I am a former teacher for J. H. Rose High School. I worked there for two years with some of the most outstanding teachers and students in the nation. I taught there for 2 years when I first did lateral entry into Special Education. The principal there in 2004, when I was there, was an awesome professional. I thank them all, including students, for a wonderful beginning into my teaching career. They introduced me to how wonderful it can be to be an educator. I have missed them and I will forever be greatful.

I am an alumni of J.H. Rose High School. Some of the best times of my life were at Rose High School. I was active in marching band, student government, member of the Rose Swim team etc. I was not a fan of the principal's way of handling things, but the teachers I had were all phenomenal! I got accepted to every college I applied to, and it was because of the educational challenge i received at JHR! I highly recommend the high school to any new families moving into the area! J.H. Rose is the toughest academic environment of any high school in Pitt County!

I am not originally from Greenville, but moved here several years ago. All three of my children graduated from Rose HS and I was very pleased with the level of education they received - all graduated in the top 10% of their class and benefited greatly from the AP courses. They were all admitted to nationaly-recognized universities and performed well at the collegiate level thanks to the rigor of their high school education. Their teachers were excellent; most took great interest in motivating their students. Equally important, I believe my kids felt safe and, to my knowledge, never were vicitimized by abuse from other students.
