My child attended the lower school for the 2023-2024 school year, it was the worst parenting decision I’ve ever made. This is not a safe school for black and brown kids. Other kids are given empathy/support but not our kids. The expectations are not the same, and age-appropriate behavior will be considered problematic. Instead of talking to our children, they will be heavily discipled (time outs, detention, being isolated in the classroom etc) which will only exasperate the situation. Admin will tell you what you want to hear so you are left feeling like they care about your family. However, behind the scenes it will be a different story. The vice principal and principal are not on the same page which is frustrating as a parent. There is favoritism shown amongst the staff’s kids and certain volunteers. They will tell you that everyone is treated the same but that is not the case. Do not send your child to this school. This toxic environment has severely damaged my child’s self esteem and mental health. They will happily enroll our kids because enrollment has been declining for years, but they do not value us. Our children deserve to be in a safe school where they are celebrated not just tolerated. This ain’t it, go someplace else.

The WORST school. There are some good teachers and good families, but they are becoming rarer and rarer. Morale is low. The school is overrun with bully parents and students. The school administrators are indifferent to bullying and racism. Terrible, cruel and inexperienced administrators. Never seen anything like it. This place is making me lose my faith in humanity.

My daughter had a great experience in the Elementary school at Sacred Heart. When she entered middle school, she had a lot of friends and was very happy with her classes and her extracurricular activities after school. When she started seventh grade, she had a fall out with her friend group. The group was saying cruel things about some kids in the school, labeling them with unkind words. She did not like what her friends were saying about other children, so she decided she didn’t want to be around the behavior. My daughter had been getting good grades and was in all the higher classes in school. Her teachers loved having her in class, and she was very confident answering questions, participating, and learning. Unfortunately, her old friends started bullying her and it continues to happen daily. She would come home crying all night. I talked to the middle school teachers and administration, and they were fully aware of what was going on with my daughter and her former friends. Things started to go downhill after she received zero support on the matter. Very quickly, her grades started to go down, and she started to feel insecure about herself. I continued to ask for support and even requested she meet with the guidance counselor. Nothing was done again. My daughter went in to eighth grade feeling like she was being bullied by not only students, but also teachers. A few of the teachers were very close tostudents, which I understand, but to cause another child like they are not valued is not acceptable. The teachers joked and laughed with their favorite students (and the parents of those children), while my daughter had to navigate this experience at school alone. I believe teacher’s children are favored in Sacred Heart. The teachers children are always the ones who get picked for every single event and activity. You would think that all children are treated the same in a Catholic school, but this is not the case. The quiet kids are left behind. I am glad that my daughter is now thriving in her high school and loves everything about her friends, her teachers, and her classes. Sacred Heart made it a nightmare for my family. No one wants to see their child hating school. No one wants to see their child being bullied. Being bullied by both students and teachers was a painful experience.

The Assistant Principal of the Middle School is clearly in over her head, and lacks basic skills necessary to work with middle school aged children. Some of the more active parents at the school are bullies, but because they are engaged with the school, the school allows these parents to engage in inappropriate behavior and allows their children to go unpunished. If you're not in this group, then detention is handed out like candy is on Halloween, even for typical/non-problematic behavior. The teachers and administrators don't have the skills or desire to deal with situations and they just resort to giving out detentions to address any and all issues. This school has completely destroyed my child's self-confidence.

This school does an extremely poor job on addressing bullying issues. This is the second year my son is being bullied and it’s impacting his mental health.

Are the reviews turned off for Sacred Hearts??

Our experience in the elementary grades at Sacred Heart was wonderful, but the middle school not the same. Unfortunately the middle school has many issues that have only gotten worse since the vice principal of the middle school retired last year. Her replacement is inexperienced and way over her head. Not a good administrator let alone leader of the middle school. I fear it will only get worse since the current Principal and Vice Principle of the whole school are now leaving. Many teachers have left over the past 3-4 years and there was no music teacher or program at all this year because they didn't hire a replacement. Parents weren't even told about this until after school started. There are a few very dedicated teachers that truly care, but the rest are checked out and punitive. Example children not allowed to have recess if they run or talk in the halls. and if your child is late more than 3 times no matter their age automatic detention. I found this absurd considering the parents are driving them to school there are no buses, but there are traffic conditions, accidents, and weather to deal with. Maybe they should speak to the parents not punish the children. I wish we had left after 5th grade like so many others and attended middle school elsewhere.

We are extremely pleased with Sacred Heart. The staff, teachers, support people, all are very caring and concerned people. The level of education is even better than we expected when we enrolled our child. We are especially happy with the way unexpected " issues" are handled.

Some teachers abuse their power and the school condones such behavior.

Sacred Heart is an excellent school and community. Highly recommended.

This school is a true community where God,academics, values, service to the community and fun are stressed. I had my little one go to the neighborhood school because he wanted to ride the bus. The only thing the teachers were worried about is test scores, in Pre-K ,and the teachers were so stressed out about said test scores it made the kids stressed. The person concerned about the racial make up of the teachers and other members-- a priest from Africa was there all year as were volunteer parents. You need to be STAND certified to work with the kids, can't just walk in. Library and Lunch needs lots of help. Ravens players come in and read to the kids. Looking at the photos of field day there were several parents of different races. Pre-K is wait listed and incoming K is close. Mr Coyle is an amazing principle, and teachers make much less in a private school then public and not every family can afford that.

As the parent of a child who is of mixed ethnicity, I am confused by the previous post. My child sees people who look like him everyday--because they are human beings, as is he. I have yet to encounter one teacher who did not clearly care for my child. At SHG, the teachers and staff care for all of our children. They consistently show concern, pride, and love for all the children in their care. Even if I happen to be at school after hours (sports, scouts, etc.) I see teachers there, working. They are dedicated professionals, and I trust them with the importance of my child's education. I've never once found an objection over the color of their skin, just as I am positive they don't even stop to think about the color of my skin, or that of my child. I am proud that my child sees these professionals model dedication, loyalty, and Catholic/Christian values every day. They are the definition of who I'd like my children to be when they grow up. As far as bringing in a more ethically diverse faculty, perhaps you should address your concerns in private, with an administrator, if they are true concerns, rather than posting about it in such a public forum.

I'm a parent of a child that attends Sacred Heart. While it may seem nice from an outside perspective, I have to wonder if the administration at the school has my child's best interests at heart. There are a number of minority children that attend Sacred Heart, however there is not one minority facility member on the staff. I find this highly embarrassing. Given the number of minority candidates and HBCU's in the greater Baltimore area, you would think that the Scared Heart School would have at least one person of color over there in a teaching or administration role. Not a one. This is troubling and will probably cause me to withdraw my child very soon. If a child doesn't see ONE PERSON that looks like them in leadership positions, how can he or she feel confident about becoming a leader in the future? UNACCEPTABLE.

My kids have received a quality education at Sacred Heart while being a part of a service-oriented and caring community. I am so impressed with the teachers and their commitment to their students. I would send them to Sacred Heart all over again.

I have had two children go through the school. One graduated in 2009 and the other is currently in the fifth grade. The faculty and administrative staff are top notch. Mr. Zachary Coyle was a great find as principal. He gets it when it comes to Catholic education and education as a whole, to create a well-rounded person with a firm basis in their Catholic faith. If you don't send your child to Sacred Heart, you should if you can. I have yet to see a better school.

Great Catholic education. Both of my children entered Catholic high school with great faith and an excellent and well rounded academic profile.

If you read a bad review of this school, it is definitely from before the new principal took over. He is making a huge difference and is not afraid to fix problems and enact needed change.

We love Sacred Heart-Glyndon! We have three children presently attending and each one loves being at this school. The teachers are fantastic and truly care about the students. The principal is in his first year and he is an amazing force - we are very fortunate to have him and his administrative team! You have an emphasis on faith formation, service to others and strong academics. You have active parents who care about the school. I cannot recommend this school high enough.

I recently moved my children from our local public elementary school to Sacred Heart. I was nervous to move them academically because they had received a strong education this far. But, I really wanted an environment that focused on service to the community, and would help me and my husband raise giving and moral children in what increasingly seems to be a self-centered and immorality society. Sacred Heart provided exactly what I desired with regards to its focus on Christian values and self-respect, as well as respect for others. At the same time, it exceeded my expectations academically. While they were receiving a strong education at the former school, Sacred Heart has focused on fundamentals, developing a study discipline and setting a high personal standard that I did not see before. We have been nothing but pleased.

Sacred Heart has excellent teachers, a faith based educational environment, and a strong sense of community that has been their benchmark of success for many years. Both my wife and I are alumni and our two youngest current attend this amazing school.
