Both of my kids have attended Copperwood since kindergarten. My son had no problems and was able to promote and move on to HS. My daughter on the other hand has had problems left and right for the past 2 years. THE BULLYING IS SO BAD!!! They also SUPPORT the bully’s and do not care for the victims. My daughter has been physically and mentally attacked by one girl and her group of friends. We had to make a police report and the assistant principal put a “no contact” order in for my daughter and this girl which is a TOTAL JOKE! She’s still aloud to talk to her, call her names, and mentally abuse my daughter without any repercussions. My daughter is so scared to go to school. She does not feel safe at all. Do yourself a favor and find another school!!

I was hesitant to send my son here for 7th grade after reading the bad reviews; but, after speaking with a long time office staff member who assured me the new principal was amazing, I took a chance. She was 100% correct! Dr. Romito was everything I could possibly hope for in a principal and Mrs. Hartman (VP) followed right in her wake of being amazing. Above and beyond doesn't do them justice. My child is special needs and gifted, so he a double whammy. He was treated like royalty compared to other schools, and I was treated with grace and respect on all levels. When there were problems (inevitable) the admin. staff, teachers, and even charter students stood up proud and aimed for solutions, not blame; prevention, not punishment; safety, not oversight. They FOUND a way for every child to be in a good learning environment, no matter how challenging that feat was. They didn't pacify parents or students with lip service; instead, the let their actions show their concern for the children in the care of Copperwood. The leaders of this school pass it down to give hope to some of the "GREATS" in teaching, like Mrs. Land, who is sure to be the best teacher of the 21st century. Great leaders, like Dr. Romito, make teachers who want to teach stay, and make teachers who can't adapt leave. Copperwood was great the first year of her reign, I can't wait to see what miracles she creates moving forward, now that some of the cobwebs have cleared out. If you had any doubt before, think again and take the chance. It was very rewarding for our family and many others.

I’ve been in the CCDI classes for about 7 years now. I believe the old principal, Dr. Crudder genuinely cared about how the students were learning, and giving the teachers resources needed to properly teach CCDI. I have little to no complaints about the teachers. They have been there to support me, and were willing to work out difficulties I had. Unfortunately, with the new principal, it seems like all the spirit copperwood has had is gone. She only cares about test scores. I believe she sees students as numbers, not individuals. There have been times I have had to talk to her, she does not connect with students. CCDI tends to get picked on, my class has been made fun of by general education students almost my whole time of being there. Nothing has been done to encourage it to stop. Especially now with the new principal, it feels worse. There’s no point of a CCDI class at this point, if you’re thinking about sending your kid here for it, I wouldn’t. It’s been watered down, half of the 8th grade CCDI class is Gen Ed students that have been put into there. I’m not sure why, because I don’t think they like it there either. You’re better off going to another school that can support your gifted child. The teachers are doing what they can but the principal is giving them nothing. By the way over 10 teachers left last year because of the principal, i’m not the only one that doesn’t appreciate her.

The principal and district do not support the gifted CCDI program. My child was in the CCDI program and was bored beyond belief, therefore he refused to do the work. When we asked for more challenging work to meet his needs, the principal suggested instead to give him to remedial work. We found a different school where my child skipped a grade and he is now on the honor roll.

I am very disappointed in this school. It used to be wonderful but now it's bad. The new principal is disconnected and unfair. The CCDI program is not only lacking but damaging. Many CCDI students suffer from low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Please take your student to another school.

It was great, but changes in administration have put it in jeopardy. Losing it's magic, but it is not too late!

It was a wonderful, educational, beautiful, nurturing and loving experience that fostered a sense of community, respect and integrity until the administration took over. It saddens me to watch all the work done by the old adminstration, the teachers and most importantly, the children go right down the drain. Teachers, keep up the good fight. The kids need you now more than ever. Thank you for what you continue to do.

In less than a year, the new administration put in place at this school has ruined the entire integrity of the school. It is a disgrace the School District does not have higher standards for the staff who serve the children in our community.

I had a terrible experience with this school. At the beginning of this year, a week into school, the new principal discriminated against my new kindergartener, and picked him out of a group of kindergartens because she claimed that he was “too small and immature to be in kindergarten” and that I should find him a preschool to put him in or else he would only be allowed to be there half the day if he stayed at their school. He had already been in preschool the year before and was begging for longer school days. Once we talked to higher ups, the principal changed her whole story. I unenrolled my son and he is now doing amazing at a new school.

It was great until this year. The new leadership is destroying what was once a true community.

CCDI program was exceptional and challenging. Teachers were very knowledgeable and caring.

My experience at this school saddens me. I did a lot of research when my child was ready for school because I wanted the absolute best for him. Kindergarten was hard to chew because they demand so much from the children. Homework is thick packets and, on top of that, you were never notified if your child became injured or hurt which happened quite often! First grade was a bit better. His teacher was too strict and not fun but I dealt with it most of the year. I was finally fed up when she told the kids they weren't allowed to wear tank tops in the summer time because she "didn't want to see their arms". I called her out about her attitude and the poor way she handled the children and she seemed to improve for the remainder of the year. Second grade, however, has been an uphill battle. His teacher does not care about each child's individual needs. She often tells the children she "doesn't care" when they try to come to her with a problem. After dealing with the lack of action taken to stop bullying, I've decided this would be our last year at Copperwood. I felt the need to post all this here to warn other parents who are searching for the best. If you choose Copperwood, constantly have open communication with your children about how their teacher treats them and how they handle their anger. I wanted to move my child into a different classroom for the rest of the year until he told me the teacher next door can be heard yelling at her students and slamming things.

Great for my twin that is gifted and in the ccdi program. His kindergarten teacher Mrs. Jackson was phenomenal. However, the school was not willing to work with my other twin with behavior and emotional issues. I was told they "did not have the staff for that" and reminded that we were on a variance from another school (same district). Drop off and pick up are chaotic here, but most schools it's the same. The kidzone after school program is good. It is a little pricier than other schools in the same district though. The playground here leaves a lot to be desired. Especially the kindergarten playground. I would recommend this school for gifted kids.

Too many children from outside school area. Pick up drop off is a nightmare! People honking at each other. Not enough parking. Accidents almost happening. Children almost getting ran over. It's not safe to walk, ride a bike or drive your child. The school is not equipped for that many students! Which is unfair to those of us who live in the attendance area.

My 8th grade daughter just finished up this year after going to Copperwood since 3rd grade. My son is going to 2nd grade after being here since kindergarten. I am so PROUD that my children attend this school. I have never seen a more dedicated staff, a more involved principal and a more efficient front office staff. EVERYONE is friendly and extremely caring. My son had Mrs. Dunn for two years and I can't sing enough praises for the kindness and dedication that woman has to her students. Every teacher my children have had have been nothing short of amazing. The school has so many fun activities for the kids, fundraisers, field trips, assemblies. It is a phenomenal school that continues to strive for excellence.
