The current principal literally wrote a book advocating educators to do less (look it up yourself). Not do more with less, just less. All while the school raises taxes extraordinarily with no end in sight. There is no accountability, no standards, nothing. The current principal would rather be on the stage performing instead of leading the school towards academic achievement. There is a time and place for the arts but the current principals sole focus on performance art is setting students up for future failure. The Administration is bloated and top heavy (unnecessary and redundant positions all making too much money). The school frequently threatens to increase class size and refuse calls for real transparency in financial matters.

North Shore Middle School is the worse one speaking about the traffic safety situation. The school principal simply does not have a concern that they created a hazardous traffic situation by having 3 cars with the bus included going the same direction on two-ways road. It's almost a Queens roads situation at the school in Nassau County. Impossible to meet the child safely. I am sorry that we live in this school district. The teachers don't pay enough attention to students and basically don't care if the child has the knowledge at all. Very disappointed.

I, for one, recognize that most NSMS teachers work extremely hard to accommodate all students and this effort is typically overlooked by parents that are overwhelmed by their own children. I know first-hand. Thank you NSMS for working with my family.

A culture of vaping, bullying and pressure. Teachers use self directed learning, where kids end up having to teach themselves or desperate parents get tutors. The grading system is set up to only reward tests, which creates a culture of cheating. There is no joy in the small, cramped halls. No wonder the kids are depressed, engaging in drugs and alcohol at such a young age. Overall, North Shore lacks leadership, which is why they keep cycling through principals and superintendents. Hard to believe it has such high ranking, except they fudge the test scores by determining who sits for the tests and who doesn’t. So, yeah, don’t believe the hype. This place doesn’t care about kids.

This is a fantastic warm school that truly cares about the students. We came from a tiny local private school and we were very concerned about the adjustment for our child. The attention that our child received far surpassed the small exclusive private school that she went to. The entire staff was motivated to see our daughter succeed. The parents are lovely as well. The principle and vice principle are amazing!!! I feel like it is a hidden gem.

I wish I had gone to a school like this when I was a kid and I'm so happy my child is having such a rich and wonderful experience. The teachers follow up, and respond by phone and e-mail questions super quickly. It's really amazing. They are fair, honest and caring when it comes to grading and I've seen them give up their personal time to set up chairs at plays and musical performances and parent events. The student body has a nice ethnic mix and isn't full of crazy parents who are selfish or demand special treatment for for their kids. Its a wonderful small community. Finally the principal, office staff and even the cafeteria workers are reasonable and nice people. I feel so lucky to live in Glen Head and have my child in this school.

Teacher sent me an email criticizing my son and comparing him to a student that she favored. She criticized his learning style, his mastery of the subject, and his personality of not sucking up to her as the other student and parents had done. The principal took her side against my son and granted her tenure even after I shared the outrageous email. The superintendent took the principal's side as well. That is this ridiculous school district in a nutshell.
