The school sucks. The halls are disgusting, the bathrooms are filthy, even the teachers complain about the smell. The food there is old and sometimes stale. The milk tastes like chemicals and is sometimes chunky.

In my child’s experience here, he says it has been horrible. Every day he comes home with recordings of what teachers have said and they are rarely ever good. Some teachers even encourage fighting and hope to see fight videos. Some teachers have lashed out at my child because he made a simple mistake on a paper. And sometimes he comes home starving because the school breakfast and lunch is barely edible at times. I have started taking time out of my day to get food from fast food restaurants and take them to him every time he texts me that the school lunch is horrible. I do NOT recommend this school and I feel like no child should go through this.

On balance it hasn't been horrible, but it's certainly not welcoming. Would like to have the opportunity to sit with the school leadership and talk over the things they don't seem to see and therefore can't address. Parents and students see things in a light that is different from the leadership - therefore they aren't even aware of the small things that could immensely improve the channels of communications with parents and students.

I feel that the staff currently employed in this school are unreliable. My daughter has had extreme trouble with bullying. It took me 5 weeks to get in contact with the counselors. They spoke to my daughter FIVE WEEKS after I got into contact with them. The sheer ridiculousness of this school drives me insane. I highly suggest that you enroll your child into another school, as long as it is not this one. My daughter is now struggling with depression and anxiety because of the fact that all of the students at this school show no respect for anyone, and continue to bully and throw shade at other students, even though they have done nothing to them. The staff is irresponsible. My daughter struggles to maintain her grades due to the ineffective teaching of the staff. There are few teachers that take their job seriously and actually TEACH the students. Overall, the experience I've had at this school is that of a disgusting one.

EMGS is not concerned with students reaching their full potential. My oldest child has been on the honor roll since he first started school.. He has maintained a 3.75 or higher Gpa and was inducted into the honor society. That being said, he was moved from his advance classes to general classes at the start if 7th grade this year. I honestly don't see how his grades could be any better than Straight A's. Along with the placement problems, my son, along with half of his class was moved from their math class with Mr. Reed this year to another teachers classroom. My son has complained about his new teacher since he was moved, and his grade reflects the change. He has gone from an A, to a b, and now he's working on pulling up a C he had on his progress report. When he told the teacher of his concerns, she said, don't blame me, you're probably not paying attention? Ok, regardless of the fact that he has an A in all of his other classes and had an A in math before being moved to her class - how is avoiding responsibility helping him?

My daughter is a sixth grader at EGMS, and she absolutely loves it! Her grades are outstanding and she is learning a lot. Her teachers are always in constant contact with the parents and students. I feel like if I have an issue, I can call or email teachers or administration and get a quick response.

My daughter is a rising 8th grader at Eastern Guilford and despite the negative things I was told upon moving here 4 years ago, I have been impressed with the school for the past two years. The teachers are caring and helpful. Often reviews are left when something negative happens, however I feel that you can not use a few incidents to determine the character of the entire staff and teachers within a school. As far as testing goes, there are a lot of variables that play into testing that parents are unaware of so I do not feel it is always the best reflection of teacher effort and dedication. Overall Eastern has turned out to be a really good school.

I was very worried about sending my son to EGMS this year because of its bad reputation. After the 1st week I realized my worries were unfounded. My son has struggled since 3rd grade but has really seemed to come out of his shell. His teachers make an effort to make sure he understands the material. All of my interactions with the 6th grade administrator have been very positive and helpful.

I was very dissatisfied with Eastern Middle. My child was enrolled for two years, and it was horrible. The teachers there seem to have a closed door policy, meaning they will only contact you when they are frustrated with a situation in class. Now I am the parent whom is involved when it comes to school, and my advise to the teachers reading this is to have a parent/teacher conference, (If this was happening the overall school grade would be better) as you see, it is not. This will help both you and the child. My child didn't fail but if you see you are losing a student in class, Take out the time to make a difference in a child's life, instead of ignoring the child. Understand you may get a child like this every year, When are the teachers going to step up to the plate? Teachers should contact the parent immediately if they are not reaching the student. To give a child a failing grade says alot about the teacher. Bottom line, to be a teacher you have to love what you do. The passion for teaching is not there anymore.

I have twins that just started at EGMS this school year. We were VERY APPREHENSIVE about them going but it has been wonderful so far. My children say that they have had a great day at school every day. Joe Farrell is a blessing to the school and has a very dedicated staff. The male presence at the school is also impressive. If you are concerned, apprehensive, or just not sure that it is the right fit for your child give Joe a call or go by for a visit. It will definitely change your perspective.
