Excellent school; our kids have loved it here; I think the great school number does not give a clear picture of a what a well rounded school this is; gifted as well as spec needs and everyone in between can excel and feel nurtured here

Teachers are burned out and students don't get what they need because they teach to the test. Bullying gets ignored because the kids have parents who volunteer or give to the PTA. There is a lot of classism going on at this school and I say that as a parent who lives in BC. I will say the UIL and music programs are excellent.

The first few years the new campus was open were exemplary. We were grateful for the experience and loved the community created by the teachers, administration and parents.Unfortunately it has deteriorated significantly. I don't know if it's changes made at the district level and that there is too much pressure on the staff, but morale is clearly declining. I would disagree completely with another reviewer who said the staff works to meet the needs of individual students, especially those who need to be more challenged. They are typically left to their own devices while teachers focus on helping the other kids stay caught up, probably for testing and ratings purposes. On the flip side, the kids who need just a little help aren't getting it either because the school refuses to acknowledge any issues that don't interfere significantly with the day-to-day operations. There is a clear culture of cliquishness among the parents, as well as the staff, with parents refusing to hold their children accountable and administration refusing to hold teachers accountable. The nepotism and bullying at this school are serious problems and both are swept under the rug because nobody wants to tarnish the school image. We give this school a 3/5 because the education is adequate, the campus is clean, and the few grade and specials teachers who still care make it tolerable. We can't wait to get our kids out of there.

The teachers here do a great job in identifying students who are excelling, as well as falling behind. When there are students performing above others, they make a point to provide enrichment to allow for additional growth, even if those students are not in the GT program. Children who are falling behind in subjects receive support and encouragement, with different methods tailored to their unique challenges. I have witnessed incredible growth in my child from being given extra growth opportunities and have also seen friends with struggling children find great support in helping them achieve their potentials.

McCoy has wonderful facilities and some exemplary staff, but too many teachers are apathetic and fail to challenge the students. The school focuses too much on new teaching methods, and not enough on the basics, resulting in a sub-par education.
