Some really wonderful teachers work at this school, and because of the size, one would believe your student would receive a lot of great personalized attention; that is not the case, unfortunately. Unless your student is completely self-driven and a stellar student, he/she will be left to status quo. Only a select group gets treated as if they are worthy of extra attention: this who are already succeeding. Ironically, this is the very group that does not really need the extra attention. BOE members' children are treated better, due to pressure from them, and get more opportunities than others. FES is a school choice school, but you would be better off choosing Kingwood or Alexandria public schools, also school choice schools. Their administration is more balanced, fair, and even handed, and have excellent teachers. Teachers would agree to this, as well, but fear backlash. Highest per student cost in county with fewest offerings, and pay high school to teach their 8th graders math, including fuel to transport them! Time to merge with other small local schools and all will benefit, especially the kids. Small size is not worth it.
