I really like this school because it lets you have fun as a kid and it helps you learn to. They also have helpers, to personally help someone with their school problems (if they have any). Clearly, this is a really good school.

Excellent school! My older one used to go to Brookvale. Now he is a middle schooler. My younger one is in 3rd grade in Brookvale. Both the kids and us are very happy with the school, teachers and staffs.

We have my 2 kids studying in Brookvale elementary (4th and 2nd grade) and we have only positive experiences to share. The teachers who have taught our kids so far have been very kind, generous and so wonderful that we are appreciative of them. We have only gotten a similar kind of feedback from my neighbors whose kids went to Brookvale and have turned into wonderful adults and are currently doing so well in their life and career.Being home in 2020/2021 and witnessing it first-hand, My spouse and I notice that the teachers have shown even more resilience and strength throughout the pandemic period. We don't have much experience with the previous principal, but we find that the new principal who joined in 2019 has been trying through various means to connect and better engage with the parent community. We just came across this page and it felt sad to see reviewers who have left poor ratings without any information or justification. Understandably, there may be isolated cases of bad experiences for parents and children (which can happen in any school), but we see examples where reviewers have shown their frustration by giving negative ratings for every aspect of the school. We request them to be more considerate as it would definitely affect the morale of the teaching community and school staff. May we also request other parent members of the school to share their experiences so we have a fair representation of this good school.

It is very true that a teacher can either make a child successful or can break him/her! At Brookvale elementary they have teachers and a principal who can break your child! I am just amazed that just after my child's first day at kindergarten they managed to do it with such a ease!! Due to financial reasons we decided to pull out my child from a private school to public school. I made mistake by putting faith in public school system and got fooled by ratings! The teachers don't have time to help your child in the middle of the year to help him settle in the new school even though teacher student ratio was 12:1. I landed him pulling out and he is back in a private school. Public schools like this because of teachers and principal are disgrace to humanity!!!

The school has teachers who are a mixed bag. The Principal is approachable but unless the teacher reports anything to her, she just ignores you. The IEP team is great and supportive. My child dealt with English as a second language and got SLP--who was nice and supportive. My biggest problem was that our child's first grade teacher had no control over the class. Through out the year he was not just bullied but abused by some of his classmates. Kids poking pencils in his rear end, locking him into the bathroom, and hitting him on his head or stomping on his hands. The Principal told me that they don't have a zero tolerance policy and some aggressive kids stopped but others continued their bad behavior. Generally speaking, approaching the parents was more helpful instead of going through the teacher. I understand that kids but the teacher needs to make sure that she can control her class. Unfortunately this year--I did not get that feeling. However, the kindergarten class was much better run as despite the high number of troubled kids in that classroom, the teacher had an upper hand. My child is an introvert but never troubles another soul. He is also one of the youngest kids in that class. I found myself apologizing for my child's behavior several times. The teacher basically reminded us that the kid has to stand up for himself and deal with it himself. This is for a kid who is 6 years old.

A response to the parent concerned about overloading: My daughter, too, was overloaded from Brookvale after a week of school had already passed. She was in Kindergarten, and it was a big transition (for me and her) to have to go to another school until she was called back to Brookvale. Overloading decisions are not made at the school level, but are made by the district, and the school's principal must follow the district's policy regarding making room for kids. Many schools who have enrollment lotteries are able to tell parents about overloads before the school year starts, but in many other cases, decisions can't be made until after kids show up for school in September. Overloading is the black spot on FUSD's image, which is otherwise a great district. I would love to see changes made to how the district handles enrollment, as I agree with you that overloading is hard on teachers, parents, and most of all, the kids. I'm also sorry that you did not feel that the principal at Brookvale adequately addressed your concerns, but ultimately it is out of her power to do so.

We have moved to Fremont few months ago June 2012. I have two boys 1st and 3rd grade. One week after school started I got a call that 1st grade are over loaded I have to send my youngest to different school. We have encountered this before at different school. But difference between other school and Brookvale Elementary is other school let you know before school starts so I can send both my sons to different school but Brookvale let you know after one week after school has been started. My 3rd grade son already made friends and didn't want to move. My wife work early in the morning and now I have to drop off my two sons at school starts same time. And my wife have to pick them up almost same time as well. I have talk to Brookvale principal. I have explain my situation and only message I got from her was many families are same situation as you they are taking it so should you. Principal is saying they have made decision and it's final there are nothing I can do to keep my sons at Brookval.
