My son entered freshman in American during Covid. It was a difficult time for a lot of his friends doing remote learning but American High School tried their best to accomodate my son and support him. He struggled in the beginning and we were honetly frustrated but realized that the whole remote learning was new even for the teachers. The school, principal and staff were so quick to resolve the issues some kids are having with the remote learning and was able to provide an in-person learning for the kids who were really struggling with it. His counselor and teachers were such a big support that made him from a struggling student to a student ready to go to college on his fourth year. This really helped us as we do not have resources to get him tutoring to help him out in his high school journey. We are both working parents and he pretty much learned everything by himself with the help of his teachers and counselors when he needed extra support. Food was free, although nothing fancy, there was an abundance of it. Milk, fruits, sandwiches, burritos, pizza and chips. He got in their College Connect program and his teachers, counselors were all part of his success to transition to this. This is a program that enables you to get dual credits for college and high school starting on your junior year. This is not for everyone but his teachers were able to help him realize this is for him. He said in terms of facilities, this school is in the older side although some renovations have been made recently but the staff are very helpful which makes up for it. Students here are diverse, sone are very competitive and some don't care. You just have to choose your people and if the students who doesn't want to be in school disrupts your class, just focus on getting through you HS year and your goals in life.

my experience at AHS has been stressful and disappointing. the only reason that i am not giving it a one-star is because i genuinely have made some good friends and good memories through some clubs and programs, and there are a few teachers that i loved, but the worst part of the school is the staff and admin. Running a club at AHS is one of the most stressful things that you will do because you need to meticulously adhere to all of the unnecessary rules and regulations, and admin makes it even more stressful. they talk about taking care of your mental health, yet do nothing about it---it's all talk, no action. students just care about getting the highest GPA possible, and i don't see many students with good character anymore. it is disappointing to see. if you will be attending AHS, all i can say is good luck and i wish you the best!

This school really sucks. This school is too competitive and wants to be Mission San Jose really badly. Fremont culture nowadays is prioritizing education over the wellbeing of us students. Do not let the test scores fool you, kids are miserable here. You cannot succeed here unless you are wealthy and have the resources. Silicon Valley techies and their kids have ruined our cities and made our schools unbearably difficult. For reference, I took Algebra 2/Trig my junior year, but it was filled with freshman. The teacher flew by chapter after chapter without help. Most of the kids had tutors so it didn’t really affect them…but if you’re poor, good luck!! Another thing, this is the only campus in FUSD that doesn’t allow off-campus lunch. Which sucks because the kids are really stuck up. I wish i had grown up with average kids and a healthier environment. This school is really depressing and the workload is unbearable.

The teachers here are so cool. Everyone is so awesome. The teachers truly care about the students' learning at this school. In fact, This week they called Mr. Beast (Jimmy Donaldson) to destress the students before finals week, which is next week. Truly a wonderful experience. Everyone at this school is so cool. My teacher, Mr. Afton, even said we would be going to a pizzeria next Tuesday. So excited! Thanks to this school, my mental health has been better than ever!

This school is such a disappointment. The principal is unempathetic and the most of the teachers are arrogant and have no interest in motivating or teaching students. The school is run down and lacks even basic infrastructure like working toilets . The student work hard and get good scores but thats about it . We are out of this place just after one horrid year.

I am a current student at American and I have never been more depressed in my life. With recent staff changes the school is completely oblivious to any stress or mental health-related issues. They solely care about scores and the image of the school rather than the have proper concern for their students. Rather than fostering an environment where students can learn and grow, I have been constantly put down. Every meeting with a counselor has resulted in me being quickly dismissed without any effort to solve or even subdue the problem. Staff members have bragged about punishing students and never put mental health into consideration. The school does not care or have ANY genuine compassion for the students whatsoever. Most of the staff treats it as a business, solely doing their job for themselves, not wanting to go out of there way to assist students whatsoever. The only source of genuine compassion and concern is of the teachers. I have seen over 10 of my friends leave school this year and transfer to other programs due to sheer depression. If you have a smart child and you do not care about their mental health or friends, send them to American. However, if it is your first priority to have your child grow in a healthy environment and have a happy high school experience, any other school in the district will be an improvement. I am not speaking on behalf of myself, as a large representation of the student population feels the same way.

Our son is a Freshman here. Our friends/neighbors kids who graduated out this year from American High enjoyed studying here without the crazy cut throat competition at Mission San Jose. This years placements were Harvard, MIT, Caltech, UPenn, Stanford, Urbana Champaign just among the kids we know. Apparently more kids made it to UC Berkeley from American High this year than Mission is what we are hearing! The school/neighborhood is way underrated compared to Mission SanJose. Our street Shattuck Ave has 3 UPenn MBA, 1 Harvard grad and the neighborhood is flooded with highly educated parents who emphasize education and yet the environment at American is very balanced .

So far, I am really enjoying my time at this school. Some teachers are challenging, but in the end, you will really learn a great deal from them. Others however, are just completely unreasonable and don't teach at all, but still expect their students to score good grades on their tests. Honors classes here are really rigorous, but CP classes are incredibly easy, but you will learn nothing from them. How well you do really just depends on which teacher you get. The students are generally nice & willing to help each other out. There ASB is really good & has a lot of activities - our school truly feels like a family. The sports programs are slightly above average, depending on the team. A good school to be at, no peer pressure to dress a certain way or anything. Only thing that is truly awful about American is that admin is HORRIFIC!!!!

Call me crazy if I have fallen in love with everything about this school. I came to this school thinking..."hmm, this looks like some scary, congested bee's nest." Later did I find out that it wasn't the constant rush that determined how the school was, it was simply THE PEOPLE. A diverse conglomeration of students, this school preaches unity. It has the school spirit that makes one zest their eyes for competition, and the education that splurges the contexts of our state's standards and our school's mission statement: ACADEMICS, BEHAVIOR, and COMMUNITY, in the best way possible--aid in moderation. Like any school, we have our share of fights, but I have never witnessed one, neither have I heard of more then 5 fights in my three years here. We are at a dearth of funding, making our morning home somewhat hard to malinger in, but we enjoy it all, always finding a way around it. We are always progressing, and our clubs and arts implore great talent in the diverse layouts that blend in the layers of our acceptance of all colors. This is one reason for creativity and balance throughout the ABCs. For example, managing AP/H/College-Prep classes with extracurriculars, & other practices.

I love attending this school myself. Great teachers, good test scores, and even better avtivites for students such as football, soccer, tennis, basketball, swimming, and marching band!
