This school is now closed and students go to the Helen Keller Elementary School.

Davis Thayer Elementary is a wonderful school and community with devoted teachers and families. While the facilities are old, the staff works extremely hard to do their best for children with what they have. What the facilities lack is made up for in community spirit and energy.

Both my children are davis thayer students. I loved their teachers. They made my kids feel very welcome and helped with their curriculum. Now my son is in advanced program in middle school and all the foundation was from DT. The teachers are very much dedicated and put their time and effort for the children. They addressed all my concerns immediately. This is really a lovely school for the Franklin community. Above all the principal is really sweet and has confidence in what she does. She shows true leadership and does what is best for the kids.

Both of my kids had great experiences at Davis Thayer, as have the children of many friends and neighbors. I attribute their current success now in high school and college to the foundations that were established by the teachers and administration at DT. But be forewarned - it is an old building (in fact, it is the Franklin HS from the 1940s - with a basement gym and all!) - and unfortunately many parents cannot see past that. Because if they would try, they would see great teachers that take pride in their students (my kids still go back to visit their 4th grade teacher - Mrs. Norton!) and yes, even in that old building. They may also see a highly active community of parents that are always looking to improve the experience for the kids at DT. They might also notice as diverse a student population as there can be in Franklin, and the fact that, due to its location downtown, is the elementary school that is by far the most integrated with the town (visits to the library and town common) and its history. Our experience with Davis Thayer was a great one and my kids continue to reap the benefits of the experiences and lessons learned in that old building.

The second grade classes were overly full with 27 kids I think in each class making it very difficult for the teacher to give teacher kids who need more attention time. Granted they met most of our request but still never seen a school w/ classes anything like this! Even the teacher aide wasnt available all the time. Was sad situation.
