As a parent with a child who has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) at Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School (BFCCPS), I have had a very positive experience. The school has been very accommodating and supportive of my child's unique needs and the special education staff has assisted my son in growing out of his educational delays. The staff, particularly the special education team, has been proactive in communicating with me and ensuring that my child receives the necessary resources and support.The IEP meetings are well-organized and the team is always open to my input and concerns. They make sure to tailor the educational plan to my child's specific needs, which has greatly helped in their academic and social development. The teachers are patient and understanding, and they work closely with the special education staff to implement the IEP effectively. And the administration is extremely responsive when I have a concern that needs to be addressed quickly.The school values a strong partnership with families, the pursuit of a classical body of knowledge, and responsibility for self and the community. The four pillars of their mission – Parents as Primary Educators, Classical Education, Character Education, and Community Service – guide all their activities and keep students, staff, families, administration, and board members engaged in a rich tradition of innovation and success.Overall, I am grateful for the support and dedication of the BFCCPS staff. They have created a nurturing environment where my child can thrive both academically and socially. If you are a parent of a child with an IEP, I would highly recommend considering BFCCPS for your child's education.

BFCCPS is a great school, with caring teachers that go the extra mile in most cases to help the children learn. We have had a positive experience there for all years my son has attended. The academic programs are tied into what is called character pillars, which reiterate the importance of not only learning, but being a good citizen of the community. The music program has been wonderful, and there are opportunities for kids to participate in a variety of activities and clubs throughout the year. I believe my child to be well prepared for high school as far as what he has learned here, though I do think that more homework should have been given, because that is going to be a shock when he gets it later on.I would recommend BFCCPS to any parent, especially those with kids who are on the more introverted side or need some extra attention due to learning differences. The school will do all they can to make sure that they are included and have the resources they need to succeed.

I highly recommend BFCCPS. My youngest child entered the school just this year for 8th grade. We were looking for an inclusive and safe environment to learn in after years of experiencing bullying at our local public schools. Only 4 short months into the school year and my child is thriving. The teaching staff is amazing and inspires their students to think for themselves. The entire environment at BFCCPS is about working hard and helping others by giving back. The positive difference BFCCPS has had on my child is evident. They went from being terrified to go to school to loving school and finding a place where it is ok to be yourself. My child now has a voice that is encouraged, appreciated and is embraced by the school community. I only wish we had attended BFFCPS sooner.

BFCCPS has provided our family with wonderful educational experiences. We love the character education and community service that is ingrained and goes alongside the traditional education. The faculty and staff are so hard-working, and we appreciate the diversity that exists within the school.

My child came in in fifth grade ahead of peers on all state testing. After two years, they were in the bottom percentile for math and lower for ela. Math was taught using YouTube videos, teachers didn’t know enough to help. Parents email and get warnings from admin to no longer contact teacher directly and to only contact the asst principal. They say they teach foreign languages, yet the 8th graders can do no more than introduce themselves years into French?!

This school does not practice what they preach. Here's why they seems to not have any scruples. They refuse to excuse any attendance for medical reasons and then they refuse to follow doctor's orders for excused absences and Iep 504 recommendations requesting excused absences. They don't even give dismissals so when the student was present but dismissed they mark them as truant and take them to criminal juvinal court. This is neglect and abuse for all students who attend. This is billing families because they have capabilities to excuse attendance but won't. Don't get Covid or your truant. Egregious!

Absolute miracle of a school. Sent my 8 year old son here after years at a terrible public school, and the turnaround was literally instantaneous. I literally love every teacher here and could not POSSIBLY recommend this school enough. If you or your child are lucky enough to be selected by this school do not take it for granted it is once in a lifetime.

My daughter attends first grade and even in the midst of a pandemic the school is caring thoughtful and transparent. A true partnership in education.

This school recognizes my child as a high achiever on the MAP test and has worked with us to find ways to meet his needs. He has been allowed to bypass content in which he has shown proficiency or given assignments which explore the subject in more in depth, as well as being provided with pull out sessions with other advanced students and occasionally exploring topics independently outside the grade level curriculum. We are very satisfied with the education this school is providing our children and are thrilled with the new facilities. The only negative at this time is the lack of a gym and adequate fields, but both are in the works. We have explored private schools for our children, but feel that BFCCPS provides an exceptional individualized education, consistent character education, and a strong music/arts program.

I cannot wait to send my child’s sibling. That should say a lot! Everything about this school is fantastic! If I have to choose one thing I don’t like, it’s ordering their lunches the week before. And that’s only MY problem :)

Our first year at BFCCPS has been simply wonderful! We were REALLY nervous to bring our child in at 2nd grade, but the outpouring of assistance and acceptance from inside the school and the community has been tremendous! Communication from teachers and staff is leaps and bounds above our previous public school. The fact that language and the arts is a top priority was a huge reason we applied three times. The after-school offerings are diverse and a great extension to the curriculum. We are so grateful that we finally got in and for this new journey we are on and can't wait for our other child to join.

This school caters to ESL students and students with IEPs effectively. If your child is advanced or scoring well on the MAP tests they will be ignored. I predict the move to a new building will be a disaster and am considering moving my children to a different school.

Great school. The school work with the kids and the parents to fit individuals need. My daughter thrives in this school. The Language, Arts, Music and the Academic programs are of high quality. The school emphasizes character education which is much needed. Last but not least, school nurses provide extraordinary care to the kids.

Our experience at the school has been amazing. One child has graduated after attending the school from K-8 and our other child is currently in middle school and has attended since K as well. Each child has enjoyed different experiences which has allowed our family to get to know more of the teaching and support staff throughout the years. The staff and teachers are dedicated to caring for and educating each child in a way that works best for the child which is fantastic to experience as a parent. There is a great sense of community, character building and caring that is felt before students start kindergarten and is carried through after graduation. With the added activities including PE, French, Latin, Art, Library/Tech and Music in addition to the curriculum, students are exposed to and learn to appreciate the great, big world we live in. BFCCPS Rocks!

You will not find a more caring community for your children to learn, grow and flourish. All of the programs are intentionally designed to promote a culture of learning and inquiry, friendship, personal growth and community service. The teachers and administrators are among the elite educators in the state.

I have 2 children at the school and am really happy with our decision to send them here. The rigorous academic program includes a strong emphasis on languages (French from K, Latin from grade 3), the fine and performing arts and character education. The teachers truly care about the students, and work with families to find the best ways of supporting them through their school career, both academically and socially. The sense of community is overwhelmingly strong and they cater very well to all students, including those on IEPs. Community service is an important element at the school and is woven into all elements of the school. From K students raking leaves with their 5th grade buddies, all the way up to Capstone project worked on by students from 7th-8th grade which focuses on supporting a non-profit that is important to them, the students have constant tangible reminders that who they are and what they do is important, one of the most valuable life lessons that they can learn.

Our both kids are in the school and we love it. The teachers are really good and they are amazing with the students. The character development for kids is outstanding which keeps the trouble makers in check. Education is top notch, student quality is really good, parents are extremely involved in their children's education. This results in all-round development of kids

I'm student here and this is one of the worst schools I have ever attended. The building is horrible for the amount of students that attend. 2 classes per grade. Everyone wants to come here, what's the big deal?

Like many schools, BFCCPS has its strengths and weaknesses. The French and Arts programs are of very high quality. The physical education program and the music program are severely limited by the facility they are currently housed in (former parochial school). I anticipate that this program will improve once the school relocates to its new home off of Washington Street. That said, the school's dedication to music education through band and chorus add a lot of value to the learning environment at the school. On the whole, grades K-4 do an exceptional job teaching math, science, and ELA concepts, and I find that the learning progression from one year to the next is done very well. I have concerns about the current curriculum design for grades 5-8 however. As the students learn to manage subject matter independently (going to social studies class, science class, etc.) they need support. I frequently see an overabundance of homework which overwhelms my child and keeps her up well past her bedtime to finish her work. Having students focus more time learning concepts at home and practicing "homework" exercises during school would be more beneficial. Earlier comments suggested that some parents are pulling their students out of BFCCPS. This is true and is most apparent at the middle school level where it's not uncommon to have 15-20 students (out of 50) leave between grades 5 and 6. A full-scale review of the curriculum involving teachers, administrators, and parents is needed to make this otherwise very good school top notch once again.
