Our kids showed up in the middle of the year and we had high hopes. The registration process wasn't too bad, but initially we weren't given a lot of info about the school, teachers, or services provided. They started virtual and we didn't know what to expect at all. The first week the teacher called out my kid on their zoom, then berated them for not knowing the answer. They had an accelerated curriculum, and our kid was behind, which they should see often with military families, but they didn't know how to assist. In the months that followed, little communication about their performance or how to help them was provided. They finally acted on these plans for our kids to get them to their peers level but we saw little progression for them. At the end of the year, my 3rd grader was told they were reading 5-6 levels below the school they came! This was shocking to us since it was an area they were flourishing. The class environment is also open, meaning that you could have two classes in the same room potentially teaching at the same time to 40 students. Our kids were used to being in a room with their teacher with limited distraction, so this was another net negative for the school. Again, there is almost zero communication from the teachers and many times our kids came home not knowing what to do, and we didn't even know what they were working on half the time since there were almost no updates. Apparently some teachers have also been known to have a short fuse with the students as well. There were several times my oldest mentioned teachers talking sternly or yelling at kids for not completing work or being distracted. And if they didn't understand were told that they should have been paying attention. We live on base, so it was very convenient to have it right there, but we may seek an off base school for the benefit of our kiddos so they can hopefully get some of their confidence back, and attention or communication that they need to thrive. I don't know if I see this changing by the time I leave, and even though they only attended the last 4-5 months of the year we may not even give them the benefit of another full year in this school unless something drastic happens to give us confidence that they will be taken care of.
