When I read a poor rating from a parent it's usually because the parent fails to address the underlying issue of their child's classroom conduct. While I believe the basic tenets of learning, such as sharing and respect should be reinforced in the classroom, they should be taught first at home. My experience with TALES has never been less than impressive when it comes to a safe, inviting, caring and competent school environment. Many of the parents of the kindergartners wish that their child's kindergarten teacher could continue to teach their child as they enter first grade. If you're unhappy with the school, you can continue to moan (which explains your child's attitude), work with the teacher and principal, or put your child in your zone school. There are plenty of parents seeking to get their kids in a talented lottery school such as TALES. -from a school participant.

My son is in the kindergarten at this school because he did not share his snack with the classmates, and then he was being punished by stopping him to go to the school trip. And also the teacher kept the school trip fees until I had meeting with the school principal. Afterwards they returned the money back to me. What kind of school is it ? It is really a terrible school. From the student's parent

My daughter entered in kindergarten of September 2013. On the second day of school, the principal already remembered her name and face. This completely caught me by surprise. Although he had approx 125 new kindergarten students, he was already well acquainted with his new students. After getting to know Mr. Groff, the principal for a few months, I understand why the school has been so successful and well organized. He knows his school top down and is involved with everything. He has a team of great teachers and staff who know all the student. There are a few staff members that I feel are exceptional and provide the right tools and guidance for my child. I recommend every parent to visit the school and meet the principal.

PS244Q is a wonderful, small school with a great staff. In my 12 years of teaching, I can honestly say that this is the absolute hardest-working staff I have ever worked with. Our families are involved and active. Our students are curious and engaged. The warm environment make this a great place to work and learn.

In 2012, my child was one out of 400 applicants for roughly 135 kindergarten spots in PS 244Q. We beat incredible odds in winning the lottery and are lucky to be in a school that looks out for the complete well being of every student. The first thing you notice when you enter the school is how calm it is. The staff and faculty do their best to ensure a productive environment for all. When you look into a classroom, students and teachers are interacting in a collaborative and respectful manner. There is a harmonious buzz as students exchange ideas on their work and you can sense students' pride as they master each lesson. Examples of student work are rotated frequently on the bulletin boards inside the classroom and in the hallways and student progress is evident. I believe this balanced discipline, which is introduced from day one and carried over year to year, is the secret to having a happy, healthy and motivated child who wants to go to school every day. My child shares so much of what happens daily in class, centers, gym, recess and the cafeteria. Every part of the school routine is an opportunity to learn and grow and my child is thriving in our second year at PS 244Q.

PS 244Q is what all city schools should be, a place where teachers, parents, and all staff members work together to support the students. After teaching 10+ years in various school, I am so honored to have landed at TALES. The administration is extremely supportive of their teachers, allowing them to use their expertise in creating a caring and engaging environment for kids to learn. It is truly an amazing team.

I grew up in the Flushing neighborhood and TALES has been an excellent addition to the community. The teachers are passionate and hardworking and truly dedicated to the students and their academics and well-beings! The small community makes the school feel like a second home! The principal knows everyone's names and always greets everyone! The school also has a hard working PTA that offers a variety of programming for the families. I'm so proud to be working here and I'm super happy to go into work and seeing all the students!

This was a brand new school a few years ago and my nephew had the opportunity to be one of the lucky ones to start his education here and be part of the first graduating class from this school. Through his years here, we have noted that the teachers are all great and very caring towards the students at the same time. The principal is excellent and knows all the kids' names. He is very communicative and friendly with everyone. It is a brand new school, therefore they have the newest technology for the kids and teachers. Also, they not only care about the kids' academic education, but they also care about their health and fitness as they are a vegetarian school. Since my nephew has departed, his younger sister and brother are now attending the school and they both love it as well and look foward to going to school everyday. This is truly a great school and hope your child is fortunate enough to attend.
