Great high school with excellent SAT scores.

I have 3 students who have gone through and /or are currently going through HSE Schools. They each have been able to learn and find a pathway to success with the support of their teachers, coaches and admins. There has been a lot of vitriol in the community a lot coming from people whose kids don't and never have attended the schools. The school system was politicized and not the schools but several players in the community and board have done everything possible to diminish this still great school system.

I’m a freshman at Fishers High school. So far it’s okay. There are lots of things that could be improved. There is a lot of staff which is good but all of them are white. There is only of couple of minority staff. I feel that the school should have staff of different minorities. They offer lots of clubs and activities that cater to everyone. Another problem is lunch time. There are 3 lunch times This doesn’t help at all though. We get 30 minutes for lunch but waiting to get food takes 15-20 minutes. I think that lunch should be 40-45 minutes. Another issue is that we alternate days. Class time are long which can be a bad or good thing depends on your preference. The classes are an hour and 30 minutes

My son is just graduating from Fishers High School this year. He's had the most amazing array of talented and caring teachers I could ever imagine in a public school. Some of his teachers are in their second career, having had a first career in areas like chemistry, for instance. This gave the teachers a very different perspective on the world having worked outside of academia (although there are many fine teachers there who have spent their entire careers in academia). When a vice principal, Mr. Goodwin, heard my son and some friends were formulating an app for use at school, he offered to set up a class with them during their study hall to bring in outside experts who might be able to assist them. He let them figure things out for themselves, but kept them from getting off track. I was so surprised that he offered to do this out of the blue! It was an excellent experience for all the kids involved. Fishers has an excellent principal in Mr. Urban. I have been there during the school day and saw Mr. Urban out and about in the halls, as were the other school administrators. He spoke to students in a friendly way and made sure there was no trouble in the hallways. He communicates extensively with parents via telephone and video, making sure they know what's going on. It's obvious that he really cares and knows how to run a BIG school. While I'm sure there are scuffles now and then, but my son said he's never seen any. (It doesn't hurt that the school is huge and kids don't have time to even get back to their lockers between classes, let alone get into trouble!) Fishers is usually in the list of top 10 high schools in the state. It's a strong school academically and also has great music and drama departments. There are at least 100 different clubs for kids to join - something for everyone. If there is any downside, it's a lack of diversity in the student population and teachers. The community has to do the work on bringing in more diverse families. I've seen minority students in plays and on sports teams, but there aren't very many overall at this time. Hopefully it will start to look more like the world at large in the future, but this isn't something the school can do on its own. Hiring minority teachers to the degree they are available is the school's job, along with making minority students to feel welcome. I can't comment on how that is going. In summation, while this is a very large high school, it's a fine one. Kids can find their place here.

I think academically, Fishers is a great high school. There are many times I find myself crying over the amount of school work, but I remind myself that they are there to challenge me and make me a better student. They provide a HUGE variety of classes and even have an IB program. My older sibling who is now in college has mentioned to me that she is far more prepared for college classes than her new friends thanks to FHS. They also have a great balance of focus on their arts and sports programs and the students are very active in both categories, not to mention the millions of clubs they offer--there's truly something for everyone. The school spirit is amazing as well and it's a great way to get the students all connected with one another. There's a great deal of kids and teachers who are progressive and accepting towards all different walks of life, but a smaller half of the school remains bigoted and makes minorities whether it be due to sexual orientation, race, sex, etc. feel unwelcome (especially race). To add on to these issues, the deans are terrible at their jobs and definitely prove that they don't care about helping other students. I give FHS an average rating because although there's some great staff and it starts an amazing path for college, until minorities' voices are heard, it will never truly be a five star school.

Honestly, out of all the schools I’ve been to this is the worst one. Teachers hate their jobs and the administration doesn’t care. I just want one place where the people with the most power actually care about the students.

As an African American female I felt less than other students and I felt as though the staff did not care about me as much

Fishers High School is an amazing school! I graduated from there in 2013, and felt very prepared for a Big 10 University and the challenges that came with it. I will never forget when I was a freshman, our Principal said that we needed to get involved in order to keep up the great personality of the school! I definitely did, and I know a lot of other students in my class did as well! There is no doubt in my mind that by keeping this type of positive attitude it continues to resonate with the students. In terms of class work, it was very challenging but again worth it, and in terms of leadership opportunities FHS allowed me to get involved and learn new skills which I still use today in the work force. I'm so blessed to have gone to FHS and I can't emphasize enough that if you can get your child to go here, you won't be disappointed!

I've grown up in the HSE schools and love Fishers High School. The opportunities I've gotten to experience are second to none.

So, I just completed my freshmen and sophomore years at Fishers (will not be returning because of a move, nothing against the school) and the only word I can use to describe it is DIVERSE. There are students from all socio-economic backgrounds, and no matter who you are I feel you will be able to find a friend or a group of friends to identify with. Academically, this school really does offer so many opportunities, and values/rewards its top students fairly. There are definitely bad students who do drugs and walk around high, but typically everyone leaves each other to their own and you really have the chance to pave your own future. The teachers will help you when you need it, and are very innovative in their teaching methods. Some may be a bit too "innovative" and come off as disrespectful, but in the end you will definitely learn from most teachers in one way or another. There are so many clubs for anyone, and it is easy to create one if you'd like. I only did cross country and track, but as far as I know most sports are very open and accessible to all athletes (I.e. Not very elitist) The administration is really fantastic and cooperative, and has been patient with me in many respects. I just don't know what to say. I will miss this school so much, and they just added the new college and career center and a new gym, and I know the school will continue to grow and offer all opportunities that a student could want. By the way, in terms of tests and AP exams, this school does a FANTASTIC job of leading students to be successful in these respects. I feel this school has motivated me to be a better student, and I will carry the lessons I learned here onto my next school.

I am currently finishing my sophomore year of college. I am a Fishers High School graduate, and I just want others to know how great the school is. Throughout the past two years of college I have found myself to be more prepared than most of my friends. After many conversations with my friends from other high schools, I have realized how seriously FHS takes AP courses because my friends, after taking their AP courses, still weren't prepared for those subjects at a college level. I was an athlete all four years, and I was happy to see so many opportunities for the wide range of abilities that students have. I also noticed that most teachers were pretty reasonable when it came to any type of dispute such as grading, expectations, or anything else. There are even a few teachers that I am still in contact with today! I personally never witnessed any bullying, at least that I am aware of, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, as it would at most any school. The school is rather large, my class was 600+ students, but when we were walking across the stage at graduation, there were very few names that I did not know. Overall, it's a great school with many opportunities for students.

One of my daughters graduated from Fishers last year and the other is a sophomore. We have had avery positive experience with FHS. The principal is fantastic and teachers are involved. Previous comments about teacher expectations being unclear are probably due to the student. There are very few duds. Academics are a strong focus. My daughter thinks college is easier than high school because of the great education she received at FHS. There are lots of AP classes and the IB program. There is TONS of school spirit, we even won the channel 13 Operation Football Spirit Award three years in a row. Students dress up in red/white and body paint and pack the student section. If you want to see your friends and neighbors, you will every Friday night at football and basketball games. Having been a volunteer coordinator, I can say that parents are very involved. Fishers is a great place to raise a family. The reason I am on this site is that we are considering a move for my husband's employment and the biggest draw-back to moving is that we don't want to leave this school and all of the opportunities it has provided for our kids. Should you move into this school's boundaries-absolutely!

The previous reviews are totally and completely inaccurate, I am freshman at Fishers High School, and I have never felt so happy and accepted in my whole life, the upper classmen are helpful and so are the teachers. the school itself is beautiful, out shinning and private or public school in the area. as for the controlling comment, you are allowed to leave during lunch, and drivers may sign them selves out with further notice. Best school I have ever attended, and probably the most organized

Very controlling. At time the expectations are difficult to know. The school is a closed campus, even for seniors. Also, seniors, even if 18, may not sign themselves out of school. Students are not permitted to leave the cafeteria during lunch. If you are a senior new to the state you will have to forfeit a day to take an Algera I End-of-Course assessment in addition an English 10 test. Also, the teachers expectations are difficult to know because many do not give rubrics for assignments and only vaguely convey their expectations, especially the English Department. The school has resources and is not a bad choice but Carmel or HSE could be a better choice. And, on a side note, the school officials are immature--tension and drama obviously exists between staff members (the Social Studies department), and many appear to never have grown up emotionally.

It is really hard for me to believe that tanyone would rate FHS poorly, like some on this site apparently have. Attitudes of the teachers? My child has never been in trouble so I wouldn't know what it is like to deal with that, but maybe that speaks more to the problems at home that caused the kids problems in the first place? Anyways, I have really enjoyed having my daughter attend FHS. The kids have great attitudes, the teachers are super enthusiastic, there is a lot of pride in being such a great school and the parents are very involved. Fishers has a great repuation and is a very safe community. Unlike where I went to school, my daughter doesn't see fights at school or a lot of racism and intolerance. She sees kids accepting of diversity, and she feels proud to go to school there. I am so happy we moved to Fishers and really glad that she attends FHS!

Fishers High School demands excellence and pushes their students to excel. At times that can feel overwhelming until that student goes to college and realizes that all the work and effort has finally paid off. FHS prepares their students for the rigors of college. I applaud them for offering my daughter a world class education!!

Fishers High School is more than what I would have expected out of high school. There are so many opportunities to get involved and the teachers and staff are so encouraging. I couldn't imagine having to attend a different school. The curriculum is challenging, but teachers are there to help you through as long as you ask. The school spirit is INCREDIBLE. I've never seen a school with so much pride! Overall, Fishers is top notch.

After my older son graduated from this school, I feel this school failed to meet my expectation. School has challenging programs, but teachers are not capable to have students successes academically. I compared this high school and other high schools near by. I am worried about my younger son. I am thinking about moving out.
