My whole family absolutely loves Counterpane! We did a lot of research before choosing this schools and the fact that it is over 50 years old told me at once that they know what they're doing here. They are also the #1 most diverse private school in the state which was important for us as well and not always the case at a lot of private schools. We also wanted somewhere that had no religious affiliation whatsoever, LGBT friendly, and had lots of outdoor learning. This place checked all the boxes and once I did a tour and saw their beautiful grounds and unique campus it was a done deal for us. The academics are important (and they are top notch) but it's the environment that mattered most to us and Counterpane feels like a safe, accepting community that we are so happy to be a part of!

It’s been a blessing to have my child here. It teaches them to have agency and responsibility, to think for themselves and outside of the box. For kids eager to learn, this is the place.

I am so happy that this school is here. My son is growing into himself and becoming confident. He really loves learning. We are so grateful to the teachers here.

My daughter is dyslexic and we had lots of issues trying to get a 504 in the traditional public school system. I felt like I was failing my child until I learned about the Montessori curriculum. My child started matriculating in the 4th grade and I panicked because most Montessori schools stop after middle school. I found Counterpane just before the panic of returning to a failing school system started. My child is thriving and is part of community. They come home excited and no longer feel defeated. If your child needs a different environment, try Counterpane. It may be one of the best decisions of your life!

Counterpane is a doorway and exploration space to/for my child’s inner potential. My daughter is making great strides in developing her full capabilities. The diversity in her experience has been amazing. Even at a young age, there is support and development for life skills and immersive experiences!

Counterpane handled bullying issues better than any school my children have ever gone.

Counterpane is a very community oriented school. If you are looking for a place where you are not a number this is it! Another important aspect of how important this school is for younger kids who are often put in a box at an early age based on barely developed personality traits. At Counterpane kids are treated as individuals and allowed the freedom to become themselves while they learn.

Counterpane is like no other school my child has attended. The self-direction fostered by Montessori pedagogy is phenomenal. This place is the platonic-ideal of education that all schools strive for and consistently fail to achieve

I am so glad that our family has found Counterpane. This school is unlike any other school I have experienced. We had issues with some previous Montessori schools. Counterpane was eager to hear our concerns and go over them with us to make sure we wouldn’t be experiencing them again. They create and foster an inclusive and completely independent environment for the children. I could not say better things about this school.

Our son has been at Counterpane over four years now. His emotional growth is as astonishing as his academics. Counterpane works with each child to perform at their own paces, so our son is never held back in the areas in which he excels. The diversity of subject matters and exposure to arts, music and wilderness skills is refreshing and tactical at the same time. We appreciate a staff who demonstrates to our son what it is to be cared for while holding him accountable for his work and actions. Counterpane is honest, true preparation for being an adult and entering society regardless of what field will be pursued.

Our two kids have been at Counterpane for two years and we couldn't be happier with our decision to send them there. It is a really special place with experienced and caring teachers and a challenging, individualized curriculum. Our kids have experiences and opportunities every day at Counterpane that they could not get anywhere else. They have learned to manage their time and responsibilities, work effectively in group settings, and develop a love and passion for learning.

Our daughter has attended Counterpane for 13 years and will graduate this spring. We are so grateful it has been her learning environment for all those years. The teachers and staff are talented and caring adults dedicated to helping children learn not only academics, but also a true sense of themselves. We believe our daughter will head out for college as a discerning young woman with a love for learning and a well-formed sense of things that matter, like integrity, respect for others, love of the arts, and a sense of her passions. She owes that in large part to her time at Counterpane and we are so grateful for it.

Counterpane provides an environment that encourages "Big Thinkers" and leaders!!!. I have watched my 11 year old develop academically as well as become extremely confident in herself and her capabilities -- anything is achievable. Counterpane encourages academic risk taking, freedom and creativity which stimulates her love of learning and growth.

Counterpane is a "Hidden Gem" among the many choices of schools in this area. The teachers and staff are in a class of their own. Students are treated with great respect and are celebrated for their uniqueness. The curriculum is tailored to the individual student allowing them to go at their own pace. Our child couldn't be happier.

Counterpane is an island as school environments go...a utopia for learning. Over four decades of experience have paved a powerful understanding of how to frame each child in his or her path as an individual. The curriculum is strictly college preparatory...but designed in collaboration with student needs and talents. We celebrate 100% college acceptance since our first graduating class in 1991. Rigor, responsibility, independence, creativity, and love of learning go hand in hand in this amazing school. Our footprint is small, but our reach is enormous in building scholars.

We were searching for a learning environment where our children could learn based on their individual needs and innate interests because we want our children to develop a passion for life-long learning. We don't believe in standardized curriculum & testing because we believe that everyone is unique as individuals. After an exhaustive search for the right learning environment we stumbled upon Counterpane and we feel extremely fortunate to have done so. Counterpane "follows the child" by giving them the freedom and space to explore in a nurturing and stimulating environment. We are really happy here!

We truly miss Ms. Denise, she was the experienced lower school teacher. The office staff they give you a great sales pitch. If you do decide to place your child at this school make sure you check them for ticks daily !!

I had such a great experience with this and my three and four-year-old child that I decided to move my nine-year-old from public school after a year. Now both my children are there and we're just waiting for the third to be ready
