I have been so impressed with the staff at Mantua. This is one of the largest elementary schools I have seen and it has the feel of a smaller community school. There is a very welcoming and positive feeling when you enter the school and attend events. My kids are happy and love their teachers. I have been so impressed with the teacher's knowledge of how to best support my kids - they bend over backwards to give them all they need to learn and they truly make the kids feel loved and cared for. You really can't ask for more than that!

This is a fantastic school - key strengths include some really good teachers (and some fantastic school counselors), a good sense of community, a very active PTA which creates lots of opportunities for engagement. We have two children in the community who have thrived in this environment.

Mantua is wonderful! My third child is now a 1st grader and we have had wonderful teachers for the past 7 years. The principal is wonderful - she was so organized getting the school set up for both virtual learning and now the hybrid approach. They were also very accommodating with changes. The parents are very involved - great PTA - and it’s in a wonderful neighborhood community. I highly recommend this school! It’s wonderful.

Love Mantua- the teachers are fantastic & the administration is really dedicated. Yes, there is an overcrowding issue but that is not atypical within much of Fairfax County. I have seen no negative effects (especially as the class sizes will remain this high going into middle & high school...). It’s a really great community & school.

Although the COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted significantly the school year progress, Mantua has dealt with it in a spectacular and very innovative way.

This has been a very difficult year, but teachers and admin have gone above and beyond to make the experience good for the kids.

Terrible experience. It damaged my child's spirit and self esteem. My child was bullied heavily but was to afraid to speak up because knew nothing would be done.

This school used to be great but the administration and snobby parents who don't want to discipline their kids make it even harder on teachers to deal with the over-crowding. I would look elsewhere.

The school is definitely crowded and seems it might get worse in the coming years but it is a wonderful school with a wonderful community. We love it!

So overcrowded! The 3rd graders have lunch at 10:45 because there is not enough space in the cafeteria. 5th grade AAP and entire 6th grade students are in trailers for classrooms. This school only rates high for test scores because it is an AAP Magnet School. The school is in bad need of updates and modernization. The upside is we have had really terrific teachers.

I second the overcrowding issue- ratio is around 25-1 with no teacher aids or assistants in the classroom. My daughter is in first grade and the teacher has little to no time for any individual attention. Kids who are having trouble are immediately lost, sadly. We settled in this neighborhood in the summer of 2019 for the school and now regret it.

The school is overcrowded, the teacher/student ratio is closer to 30 to 1, and NO teaching assistants. It might have been good before the overcrowding, but not anymore.

My oldest just graduated from Mantua and I'm writing this somewhat wistfully since I feel we couldn't have ended up in a better school for him. My children have a variety of learning needs (ranging from gifted to some special needs) and we've just been amazed by the school's willingness to bend over backward to accommodate the needs of each child. The gifted center is excellent, but the school also has a program for hearing impaired children and of course the bulk of the students are in the general education program. We previously attended top flight schools in other major metropolitan areas but none came close to Mantua in this regard. Parent involvement is very high and the extracurriculars are fantastic. Previous posters mentioned basketball, strings, band, scouts. There are also two levels of chorus, drama club, kids care club (community service), a variety of competitive clubs (Destination Imagination, Odyssey of the Mind, Mathcounts, Science Olympiad, etc.) The community is also very inclusive and welcoming, with a mom's group and a beautiful community pool that's the highlight of summer life in the neighborhood.

Mantua Elementary is a phenomenal school! The teachers are the amazing. They communicate with the parents regularly which forms a collaborative environment focused on individual success of each student. The school has so many programs for students from K-6 whether it be during the school day with the Take Home Reading Program or after school programs for music, foreign language, robotics, science, athletics, or academic enrichment. We love the "family" approach where students stay within the same pod throughout the K-2 school years so they really get to know the teachers and other students and they can be moved up for certain subjects if they are ahead. Mantua is an amazing asset for the Mantua community.

If you are moving to the area you can't beat Mantua. The school is excellent. The administration, teachers and staff are incredible. The teachers actually like kids! They teach to the needs of your child whether that is advanced or a little behind. They accomplish this thru their "family" concept and by grouping kids across classes based on their abilities. They think out of the box at this school. It is truly a small community school surrounded by a huge city. You'll love the school and the neighborhood. Should be rated a 10! Sadly, we are moving away from VA but wanted to make sure parents know the quality of this school!
