Broadwater Academy has been amazing for our family. The small class sizes and dedicated faculty allowed our boys to develop and pursue their own interests while still completing all the normal college prep curriculum you would expect. They each graduated with enough AP and Dual Enrollment college credits to enter university as sophomores. This allowed them tremendous flexibility to explore different majors or even double major while still completing their Bachelor's degrees in 4 years. Athletics at Broadwater was another huge bonus for us. In large public schools, the competition for a spot on a team is fierce, and normally requires that kids dedicate themselves to a single sport. At Broadwater, the small student body means that kids are almost always able to get playing time on any team/sport they choose. In fact, our boys ended up playing some sports that they were not initially interested in just so their classmates who were interested had enough players to make a team. In this way, our boys were able to have many different athletic experiences that would never have been open to them had we stayed in the excellent, but very large, public schools in Virginia Beach. They were able to learn all the valuable lessons about competition, teamwork, winning, and losing that athletics have to offer but without the obsessive focus that can sometimes result from dedication to a single sport. Athletics were kept in their proper perspective. The focus was on preparing the kids to excel in college and post college life. Full disclosure, I felt such a debt of gratitude to the Broadwater community that I volunteered to serve as a trustee and continue to serve even after both of my boys have graduated and moved on to university and adult life. Broadwater is much more than a school, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I attended Broadwater Academy for 13 years and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. In addition to a strong education, the school offered a wide array of extracurriculars, including athletics. I would recommend Broadwater to anyone who is looking at schools for their children on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In addition, Broadwater is a vital asset to our community.

Broadwater Academy is a great school! My children have had a wonderful experience with their teachers and classmates. Each child receives attention tailored to their individual learning needs challenging them in their strong areas and encouraging them in the areas that may not come naturally. The social culture is overwhelmingly positive with a focus on working together and helping each other through mentoring younger schoolmates. Broadwater is a refuge and a place where children are allowed to thrive and grow as individuals. Upper school curriculum focused on college prep and designed to help make the transition to higher education seemless. Also dual enrollment available to help lower future college education expenses. All around great school. A wonderful asset for the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

We moved to the Eastern Shore two years ago, and the decision to change schools for our son was a significant one. We were eager and excited for the transition, but also nervous about finding the right educational fit. After considering a few options, we chose Broadwater Academy. It was crucial for us to find a school with small class sizes, an inclusive and community-focused environment, challenging academics, and, most importantly, a nurturing atmosphere. Broadwater Academy has provided all of this and more. Our son, who was 8 years old at the time, is thriving emotionally and academically. He comes home excited to share what he learned and did that day. He speaks highly of his teachers and the faculty overall. It’s very evident they get to know your child and are focused on supporting them, and I can't stress enough how they support them emotionally as well as academically. We never question if we made the right decision by moving and choosing BA for his education. It has truly been a wonderful experience for our family.

This school is full of racist kids and their parents. The school does nothing to prevent bullied students from being bullied further. For how much it costs you would think they would hold themselves to better standards but it's all for show till your child is attending. I see mixed reviews but you can't state others experiences aren't true just cause you or your child haven't seen it. I would never recommend or send my child back to this school.

I have 2 children at BA who have attended BA since pre-K (They are currently in high school). If you want a quality school that focuses on academic rigor and creating a solid learning environment for your child, this is the place to be. The teachers are caring and supportive, and the curriculum is college preparatory. Students are expected to work hard, but that is partly what we pay for. This school is designed to help children prepare for life at college and beyond. The teachers have been good; they have had clear expectations but have also been understanding when issues have come up for my kids. My kids have about 10-15 students in each of their classes, and there is plenty of one-on-one time with teachers. Overall, this is a great school, and we have been really happy here!

This is a great school, I go here and every thing that other people say is not true. The teachers here are amazing and loving.

Not the best for people who do not have a lot of money and the diversity is lacking

Great school for the price (high by ESVA standards, but not when compared to other private schools in the state or country); caring faculty; small class sizes; individualized instruction; BA is a fantastic college-preparatory school that focuses on helping each child succeed.

I have been impressed with the learning experience that Broadwater offers its students for literally one-third the tuition one would pay at a private school located in California or the urban Northeast. The teachers are caring and conscientious and the older students have gone out of their way to be kind to our child who is enjoying every aspect of the school. This school had problems under the former headmaster (departed in 2014) but is on the right track now! The friendliness of students and parents is so much better here than it was for us with our two older children at a top private school in Washington, DC.

For students who don't have a lot of "money" there's a TON of bullying. There's also NOT enough staff. The teachers here are retirees from Northampton and Nandua. Look up those schools and think of the quality of teachers you're getting!

We recently moved to Eastern Shore and I was very concerned about finding a really great school environment that matched what we had in an East coast metro region. I admit, I had my concerns, but the teachers I met seemed quite exceptional and we decided to give Eastern shore a try. Wow, what a great experience we have had! Beyond the solid, fundamental academics, my child's class has been very focused on all aspects of their development including their commitment to community and how to be a good friend. The small class size (compared to what we were use to) meant that the teacher has been able to focus on my child's specific needs. I am no longer worried if we move again, my child will be disadvantaged from being on the Eastern Shore. Broadwater has been an amazing part of our move here. I am thankful for the school community.
