This school is a warm and wonderful place for children. My visit was fantastic - the students were engaged, the teachers were happy, and everyone was very welcoming. Test scores might be slightly lower than state average, but test scores are not the true measure of student learning. What I saw was student learning and growth!

Kiptopeke is on the way back under the leadership of the current principal, Subrina Parker. After years of instability and haphazard attempts at school improvement they are finally on the right track. While scores may not be where they need to be yet, they are definitely on the way up. School climate was a huge issue before Ms. Parker took over with a "We Are Kipper Strong" campaign. I have no doubt that we will be back where we need to be as Ms. Parker's team continues to make progress.

Our family was actively involved at Kiptopeke until this school year (2012-2013). We have been driven out by the current principal and will be looking into other options for the 2013-2014 school year unless changes are made. We have been prevented from volunteering in our children's classrooms and their teachers privately confirm how disfunctional the current leadership is. Our observation over the last decade has been that we have had wave after wave of chronically failed leadership not teachers.

Sadly, our family has chosen to leave Kiptopeke after many happy years. The emphasis at the school has shifted from family-focused involvement to corporate style, raise the test scores at all costs. Inexperienced new principal brought in for 2012-13 school year want no real contribution from parents. Teachers are miserable and it shows. Families are leaving at an alarming rate this year.
