I attended this school all four years and would NOT RECOMMEND. They talk about "the charter culture" as if it's something to be proud of when in reality the school's "culture" is racist, conservative, and discourages any sort of individuality. Although the staff and teachers are very nice and good at their jobs, the rules that they're required to enforce are outrageous and outdated. The dress code against the girls is incredibly unrealistic and disturbing. If you're worried about the girls "distracting" other boys maybe teach the males in the class to not be distracted by knees and shoulders rather than telling the girls to cover up. Throughout my years of attending, the faculty CONTINUED to excuse racist behavior, and little to no punishments were handed out. Circling back to the dress code, students being unable to have unnatural colored hair, and body piercings are completely unfair and discourage any sort of individuality. Not only that but the school provides little to no mental health support. because this school is directed to sending their students to college, their classes have more rigor and a heavier homework load. Some students may need extra support that can be difficult to find at this school. Another point id like to make is the different programs the school has to offer. TCP and flex both have different strengths but I will say that flex is completely neglected when it comes to being a part of the school. All though flex students have more flexibility with their schedule and the classes they're taking, they're very isolated from the campus and are not set up to know many students.

I am a parent of 4 graduates of the Escondido Charter System. We started at Heritage (Elementary/Jr. High) and then moved across the street to Charter High School. We enjoyed and benefited from the Escondido Charter experience for 16 years, being actively involved with our kids education. They played sports, experienced theater, choir, art, student government, debate, volunteering and excelled academically. They have gone on to continue their education/experiences and they have all done very well in their chosen fields. Charter provided the opportunity to get a unique education with extra curricular experiences, the kids did the hard work to study and get involved and we did our part as their parents to support and encourage them. We would do it again!

The previous critique is misleading. According to API reports, the graduation rate for 2013 was 86%. The general public schools in the area had a graduation rate of 89%-91%. This is slightly lower. However, the charter's academic diploma is set towards preparing students for college, so the extra requirements may deter some students who are less movitaved from graduating. The percentage of students at general public schools who had procidient or advanced skills in Language Arts and Math averaged 54%, except San Pasqual with an average 74%. The charter school had an average 76%. So, comparitively speaking, I fail to see how their curriculum rigor is less than the average local school. I would be more inclined to look at the data from the USC study if they included general public schools as well in order to compare schools of the same area. My experience with the charter system has been pretty positive at this point, and I'm happy to have my daughters in their system.

Escondido Charter offers a great education. Students are challenged and encouraged to go beyond the state guidelines. I would highly recommend this school.

My son attends the ILP and it is a perfect fit for his learning style. He is self-motivated and persistent. He has flourished in this program for the last three years.
