My daughter struggles with anxiety and her anxiety became worse in middle school to the point she was becoming physically ill and was unable to attend school. We found Humanex Academy 2 years ago and it has been life-changing experience for my daughter and our family. She now loves school, loves her teachers and has many friends. Humanex has an amazing team - principal, psychologist and teachers - all willing to meet each child where they are at emotionally, socially, and educationally. The Humanex team understands neurodiverse kids, their individual uniqueness, and focuses on their strengths. Humanex also understands that homework can be enormously stressful for neurodiverse kids so they typically do not give out homework. When my daughter was attending the public middle school, she had homework every day and it caused so much additional stress and anxiety. My daughter visited/shadowed at Humanex for two days and never went back to the public school. I can't say enough good things about Kati Cahill (principal) and Dr. Tom Welch (psychologist). They are always welcoming and available to me as a parent and for my daughter. If I have a concern, they listen, give me feedback and take appropriate action if needed. Not only do they support and encourage my daughter, they also provide support and encouragement to me as a parent. I didn't feel heard or understood as a parent of a neurodiverse child until walking into Humanex Academy. The teachers understand our kids and they truly care about each and every student. There are usually 4-6 students in a classroom at a time so teachers have time to connect with, teach and support each individual as needed. In regards to the pandemic, Humanex Academy has handled this unprecedented time beautifully. I am beyond thrilled that the majority of the 2020-2021 school year has been in-person. This has been a huge bonus because our kids have some normalcy during a time when everything is not so normal. My other daughter moved from a public high school to Humanex Academy during the 2020-2021 school year because online learning was not working for her. She was extremely stressed, was hating school and was struggling with terrible anxiety. She's enjoying school again and was actually disappointed with a recent snow day closure because she wanted to be at school! She's learning, thriving and happy. What more could a parent ask for? We are forever grateful for Humanex Academy and their amazing team!

My daughter was overwhelmed in the neighborhood Cherry Creek elementary school. She has anxiety, depression, and slow processing speed especially in math. She was not good at advocating for herself and her teacher did not understand her need for fidget devices, bathroom breaks, and having her questions answered (she didn't always understand assignments at the pace they were presented). After some home schooling, Daughter had developed school phobia and was not developing well. She and I visited several schools. She and I both felt that Humanex offered and environment in which she could participate without excess stress. She began with a single class, and over two semesters was taking a full load. She received caring and challenges, choices and support, and within a semester was doing pretty well advocating for herself. .The principal, psychologist, and every teacher took an active interest in her emotional and academic development and provided an atmosphere for growth with just the right amount of stress. The school handled appropriate Covid changes and changes again with calm support and empathy for staff and students. There was probably some loss of academic process, but it wasn't much and student-teacher communication and emotional connection was maintained. After four years at Humanex, she is graduating in May 2021, having learned subjects, self-esteem, ability to grow from disappointments, accountability, and a more positive view of her life and her role in it. While her anxiety is still with her, I believe it will be possible within the next year for her to have at least a part-time employment or volunteer position. I investigated several schools before selecting Humanex, and afterward to be sure the choice was still valid. I am delighted to see the young lady she has become. ABOUT AN IEP: We obtained an IEP in her junior year but the implementation offered by her home district was totally unsatisfactory -- they simply did not understand what she actually needed and what she has always received at Humanex that has made her successful academically and emotionally.

Our experience at Humanex Academy has truly been miraculous. Our son started in six grade and will be finishing his senior year this year. It literally changed our life. We went from having tremendous anxiety about our sons at school experience to having tremendous relief. He has gained the life skills necessary to move onto a for your school next year. This is in most part due to Humanex’s excellent teachers, administration and staff.

I am so happy that we found Humanex Academy. Our son is very smart but was unable to sit still and produce quality work. His primary school teachers each found a way to work with him. However, once he started middle school and had to deal with 7 different teachers he was lost. Humanex is the perfect place for him. We are on day 6 and our son feels both supported and challenged. I will write again once he has been there for a few months.

The teachers are great, the program is great, but the bullying needs to ne under control. There was so much bullying at that school

My son currently attends this school and I love how they honor WHO my child is, his disability and still expect the best from him. This is a school where my son who has Asperger's, Mood Disorder and Anxiety can be himself, work as fast or slow as he needs, and feel a sense of belonging. On his bad days he always has a choice to work or not. One bad period doesn't ruin his day, he has choices. He is learning more here because the setting is right, the support is there, the knowledge and respect he gets and the comfort level he experiences. A true GEM of a school. I have my hopes and dreams back for my son that were all but given up on by his "home school". If mainstream school ISN'T working for your child, IT WILL WORK HERE.
