So far, they are ineffective at addressing the actual issues going on within their own walls. they seem more concerned with appearance and how many students they can get, regardless of available teachers. they are not nurturing. I do not believe that any child, let alone a 5 year old, should be depressed due to a teacher. a 5 year old should never not be happy. i have never seen my son not enjoy anything and become so anxious and scared in his whole life. They also keep telling me that they are going to punish my son for being tardy, and I'll admit it, when it's my fault. I was dealing with some personal issues but I do not feel it is the school's business nor should I have to disclose it to them. All he will know is that he isn't allowed to go to recess anymore. Also, I have not received any dates of said tardies. I know that the student is considered tardy after 8:35 a.m. and I have only been late bringing him 1 time since after Christmas break. And that was the 1st day back to school on January 7. There was a snow storm and I think that almost every student was late that day. The principal even stood in the office area and told every student and parent that she would excuse tardies that day due to it being the 1st day back and the weather.

I learned today that there is a Taco Bell ad after every video shown in first grade class on the "smart board". My child saw three of the same Taco Bell ads during class today. But I'm sure the bottled water the school sells as part of a health initiative makes up for that. The entire school grounds are now gated and locked 5 minutes before the morning bell rings, so if a child is merely on time they can't line up with their class and have to go through the front office and check in, making them tardy. This is part of a safety initiative, but after school the gates are flung open and the kids are free to run where they will. Only for a few minutes though until they are locked again without checking to see who is left. My neighbor's kid was locked on the grounds with the school house doors locked behind him as well.

My son is in 3rd Grade and has attended Mountain View since kindergarten. He has had excellent teachers that have really helped him excel. They have a strict no bullying policy which has been wonderful.

Mountain View Elementary is a very good school and they have a lot of teachers that really excell and give the kids that mix of self respect and a desire to learn that is so important.
