Math and science education are greatly undervalued here. The online program IXL appears to be the main math teaching tool. The science fair is poorly attended. First, second and third places are unassigned at the school level (district wide). Class work is the main componet of grades, homework is typically a reading log, and IXL log, disctict wide. Rebecca Sitton is used for spelling/lanugage arts. No formal Friday tests or practical spelling mastery lists are given to parents. I feel my 3 children are worse spellers because of the adoption of this school wide program. To get a pass to see the principal or other school official a student must go through their own teacher (what if a teacher is a perpetrator?) Overworked teachers run recesses. The lunch aides are the office secretaries. This school has at least 16 classrooms in portables. Spring Creek Elementary has a traditional school year. This is the only plus. Lesser experiences standout in the fifth and third grades. First grade has excellent professional teachers under the circumstances.
