in dunlap area live a lot of expats, mostly Caterpillar engineers: my review is for these expats (i'm one of them), not for the local people:the school, by indian or european standards, is, at the best, a mediocre one...my kid is in the fourth grade and until now they never had a single homework assignment. they don't have school/homework notebooks, actually, the 'foreign' parents had to request the teachers to provide supplementary practice packages for their kids...if i relocated to europe today, my kid would be probably placed in the third grade...a lot of parents usually pay kumon or other similar services trying to compensate the lack of competitivity...

Wonderful school, caring teachers and superb principal. Super giving community to o be a part of. Our kids love banner and it’s smaller size compared to the other Dunlap elementaries. We’d recommend to anyone looking for the best elementary in the area.

I've had 2 sons go through Banner and have a 3rd grader now. The principal is fantastic and the teachers are great. The education they have received has been excellent. I have nothing but great things to say.

Hall monitors and k-1st grade teachers were sexist. We had incompetent art/music teachers. Then regular teachers had students they liked and didn’t like for whatever reason. You also had a 50/50 chance of having a pe teacher that either didn’t deserve their job or didn’t have prep for their job.

You cannot go wrong by sending your children to Banner Elementary in Dunlap, IL. If we hadn't had a job relocation, we'd most definitely still be there. My child attended K-2nd at Banner and we have nothing but positive experiences to compare our new school to. I also know several families with children in grades 4-5 and all have had positive experiences as well. The building may need some TLC due to being built in the mid-80's, but you have to remember that it's the leadership and teachers INSIDE the school that counts. They're the ones teaching your kids . . . not the shiny new outside of a building. I was heavily involved in the PTO at Banner and found the wealth of fundraising ideas to be a refreshing change from other schools I've heard of. The principal is very involved as well and is most always willing to try a new idea. His leadership is a main reason the school is so outstanding. He takes the time to care about each child/family and to learn the names of the 400+ kids. He also keeps the kids in touch with the various other grades in their school by organizing "teaming events" which group together teachers and kids of all grades for fun activities a few times a year.
