Our family has had a child attending South for the last seven years. The entire team at South Elementary School, from teachers to administration, from guidance counselors to office staff, create a warm and welcoming environment for children. Individual student learning needs are considered and supported with supportive specialists available to assist students with learning challenges and guidance counselor support to assist children with their mental health needs.Parental input is valued and considered and the Parent/Teacher Committee holds regular events to develop and encourage the school community.I can't imagine a better foundation for my children's education than South Elementary!

Amazing school the teachers truly care for their students and with the principal they. I am a more of special needs and non special needs and they go above and beyond for those who need a little extra help along with those who doesn’t

My son came to the school with very difficult to handle needs. He had a particularly difficult time on the bus. He simply was not able to adapt. He has always excelled in his academics, but not with his social skills. Most schools are not very concerned about this type of problem. They primarily care about the academics. I thought I was in for one heck of a fight trying to get him another means of transportation. What I found was that when I was in the meeting all they heard was my son has a problem and we are on a mission to help him from every possible angle! I thought I was going to have to fight alone, but the principal and her staff at South elementary got on their battle gear and fought with us. He's been in that school for a few years now and I still feel like we were blessed to have been assigned to this school.

South is great! I love the teachers here. They are very nice. What I don't like about it is that I don't get home until 5:00! It's an hour bus ride. The lunch is bad but overall it's a good experience.

We love South! Most staff and teachers are seasoned and have been in the school for many years (my kindergarten teacher was my sons kindergarten teacher!) The PALs and Title 1 programs are great for kids who need extra help. As a long time resident of PG, I think South is one of the best in our county. The school is always clean, smiling staff, and happy kids :)

There is no Discipline in the school at all. The employees never go above and beyond for the kids at all. The food is horrible and not worth the money. They serve the kids on Styrofoam trays and they eat with plastic ware. The lunch room staff is very uncaring and rude. There has been water and sewage issues for the last few months and the kids are unable to use the restroom unless the adults deem it a dire emergency. My daughter (in kindergarten) has come home in wet pant due to having an accident because they would not allow her to go to the restroom. All they care about is SOL test scores, not about the students.

We just moved here from California three months ago cause my husband got stationed here at fort lee. I was I little nervous to send my daughter to a new school wasn't sure how they did things . This school is amazing they are so into helping the children get where they need to be in learning. They offer free tutoring for the kids and this is great for children that need the extra help. I am completely satisfied with this school. My daughter has a great teacher that cares.

Absolutely LOVE South! We previously went to Beazley, but redistricting brought us to south for the 2012-13 school year and on, and the difference is like night and day! We were welcomed with smiles and warm hearts right for the beginning! They made the transition effortless, and we were treated like family. Our children have absolutely adored every teacher they've been in contact with and we couldn't be happier with the staff's expectations of our children. They push them to perform while making it fun and friendly. The office staff are always very friendly and ensure the safety of our children. The large, closed campus is wonderful, as are the facilities. The computer room and library are state-of-the-art; the music room is one of our children's favorite, and they absolutely love P.E. and recess there. The cafeteria is reasonably sized, too. Parent involvement has been wonderful, with plenty of volunteers throughout the each day of the week. They really make volunteering an enjoyable experience! The bus routes are a big concern, but is a transportation issue that should not reflect poorly on South Elementary itself. We're blessed to have been redistricted to South!!!

I have had quality education provided for both of my sons at South Elementary. The staff is warm and inviting yet they follow safety procedures to ensure their students are safe. I would highly recommend South Elementary for families moving into the area.

We are military and Iive on Fort Lee. I was very concerned about the distance from post to the school and the long bus ride. However, once I went to the school met the teachers and principal I was very impressed. They are all very friendly and have the children's best interest at heart. They really care about each child and there needs. The bus system can be a little frustrating, the buses run late regularly. Even with the bus issues I am glad we have been able to attend South.

The teachers work very hard to treat students like individuals and make sure they are given the resources to succeed.
